We affectionately refer to the first beer in our Revolution series of modern, American craft beer, as our unusual little bird. It’s a little on the flighty side @ 5.4% ABV, and it’s a little on the wacky side because we brew it with finely milled chestnuts (genus castanea …for you nut freaks), Willamette hops, and we ferment it with a Bavarian Weissbier yeast strain. All of these nuances contribute to its ‘nutty’ personality.

Thanks to Lukahn (Reddit) for this unique beer.

Pours a lighter bubbly fizzy head that hits about 1/2 a finger and fades at a med pace with some foamy lacing, over mostly hazy orange-red color.

Nose is interesting, some roasted chestnuts, toasted nuts, caramelized brown sugar, a light raw earthy green like nut aroma, toasted walnut like as well, light molasses and cola syrup, a weird herbal spice like aroma, a light payday like candy covered nuts, very unique.

Taste starts with a cola root like earthy flavor, a light tanginess with that. chewy nuts, earthy nuts, light toasted chestnut, little peanut like as well. More like earthy tangy root flavors. It has a bigger sweetness, with some caramelized brown sugar, molasses, candied walnuts, caramel, etc. A light bready yeasty flavor finishes it. Finish is a bit drier but still fairly sweet, a light ester like booze quality with a hint of a tingle, some sticky syrup, toasted and candied chestnuts, and light tangy flavor lingering.

Mouth is med bodied, little syrupy, decent carb.

Overall OK but not great. Very interesting and unique, but not a beer i could drink much of as it has a lot of weird flavors for a beer.

Pours a murky brown in the glass with not much head. Very little aroma. Not quite a full brown ale, not quite a wheat beer. Needs more direction in one way or the other.

Dark reddish amber with creamy head and generous lacing. Strong banana-y scent. The flavor is burnt and noticeably nutty, especially in the aftertaste. Reasonably malty. Lightly bittered.

I like this better than most BAs. Chestnut is a great additive to this German style.

a) Classic malty amber color, with clear body, no vis carbonation, and little short lived head (additives kill stick).
S) Too faint for what’s in store when you sip. Nutty, malty.
T) Big welcoming German malt style, Alt Bier in Cologne, malty, sweet, but balanced with hop and that over arching nutty chestnut flavor which is sweet cola like, but natural and a great food pairing.
F) Spicey nutty, slick, ticklish. Low carbonation, good weight and syrup slick. Nice dry, earthy chalky finish.
o) Many 4s for originality. Would try all this brewers’ beers.

One of the most delicious beers I have ever had in my life. No words to describe the deep, nutty taste.

Served on tap in a tall glass. The beer is a gorgeous golden copper with a scant head. There isn't much aroma -- just a little sweetness. The taste is rich and roasty with a medium amount of malty sweetness. There is a faint hops presence. The mouthfeel shines: the body and carbonation are virtually perfect and balance each other to give a very nice roundness.

apparently i like this one better than most folks, as its quite unique for the style, and the use of chestnuts is a really cool idea. i dont know a lot of beers to use them in the mash, and while this beer doesnt taste like chestnuts to me necessarily, what they contribute to the beer is quite obvious. somewhere short of brown in color, deeper than copper, but clear and sort of bright, gorgeous head on it, almost looks belgian, white and wispy. aroma is great, nutty fur sure, but some of that is from the other malts in here too, some caramel sweetness too, and a neat earthiness, toasted, warming, hearty and autumnal in vibe. the flavors are like that as well, malty, with a lighter banana yeast complexion than say their hefeweizen, but a similar complexion with some fall spice notes to it as well. the chestnuts seem to add a dry earthy almost chalky taste and feel, as well as some body, this tastes organic and natural to me, very much from the earth, and i like that in an old world style like this. beautiful balance and layers of flavor, a touch sweet, but still highly drinkable. one of the most unique beers they do in here on a regular basis, and i liked it a whole lot! highly recommended for something unconventional in a classic style.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy head that lasts quite a while. Aromas of wheat bread and banana. Tastes of wheat bread, clove and banana. Sweet and tangy.
Good mouth feel.
