Notes/Commercial Description:
We affectionately refer to the first beer in our Revolution series of modern, American craft beer, as our unusual little bird. It’s a little on the flighty side @ 5.4% ABV, and it’s a little on the wacky side because we brew it with finely milled chestnuts (genus castanea …for you nut freaks), Willamette hops, and we ferment it with a Bavarian Weissbier yeast strain. All of these nuances contribute to its ‘nutty’ personality.

One pint 0.7 oz. bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. A somewhat aggressive pour yielded a three-finger tan head that had decent retention and left bits of lacing along the glass. Due to the head, I was unable to get the entire bottle into the glass. The body is light brown with an orange hue and slightly cloudy.

The aroma is reminds me of a wheat based beer, like a witbier. Mostly spicy yeast notes up front with some hint of banana and a touch of lemon in the background.

The flavor is a very pleasant mix of the spicy yeast flavors and some other more fruity notes, especially the banana. The spicy notes are more evident in the flavor than I thought they would be, based on the aroma. The malt flavor is not pronounced, but adds a nice bready and nutty flavor to the mix.

Medium texture in the mouthfeel. Overall, a very solid brew. Glad it's available in bottles now.

Poured a dark golden color, with a thick off-white head that held on for quite a while. The beer has a wonderful yeast smell with a hint of chocolate and roasted grain. This beer has a really nice flavor of dark chocolate and malt without any hops and has medium mouthfeel. I am really impressed with Urban Chestnut's first offering!! I will definitely purchase this beer again.
By the way, another plus for this brew is that it comes in a Euro bottle which is a pint and 7 oz, more bang for the buck.

A: Amber, slight copper in colour, semi -opaque, foggy (half clouded), little carbonation, no head just some yellowish foam which fades.

S: Banana, spices, chocolate, earthy, some stinky cheese, malt, caramel, nutmeg, allspice, toasted bread that’s medium wood brown, amber malts.

T: Herbal, yeasty, bready, delicious. Sour dough, sour quality and a little sweetness, vegetal like and somewhat fruity. Corriander, very much a quality that reminds me of a good weizen bock, toasty yeasty aftertaste. Love this one. Little bitterness in the aftertaste.

M: Medium bready body, medium low carbonation.

O: I have been really looking forward to having this one ever since I picked it up at Whole foods in St. Louis, MO. Still fresh tasting over a month later here in China. Has some great Weizen bock qualities which happens to be one of my favourite styles. Very flavourful, worth a try if you can get hold of it. Great by itself, it would go well with medium aged cheeses.

A- Pours a dark tan, to light brown hue. Cloudy with evidence of yeast and bottle conditioning. Medium to large head of about 3 to 3.5 fingers. Retention is great, lacing is good. Some light can penetrate the edges of the beer.

S- Dominant spices, including clove and coriander. Some nut flavor is also detectable, more in line with the hazlenut flavor, but mainly because I don't know what a chestnut smells like. Slight hints of medium body grains.

T- Very similar to the scent, but with more nutty flavor. Starts with a bang of spices. Coriander, clove, maybe even a hint of cinnamon hit the tongue. It moves smoothly into a nutty flavor, with some caramel malt too. Moves slowly into a mix of all the flavors towards the ends, and ends smoothly.

M- Relatively high carbonation, but a medium body. Easily sessionable, but begs to be drank faster. Slick across the tongue.

Overall, this would be a good everyday beer if you were looking for one with an emphasis on spices. A little lighter and spicier in flavor than I prefer, but reminiscent of traditional Belgian beers that are similarly spiced.

Appropriately, pours a light chestnut color, only a pretty thin white head.

Aroma is much like a saison or a tripel--very yeasty, some mild spice, maybe faint nuttiness, not a whole lot going on. Fairly dry.

Taste is sweeter, nuts are more apparent but not super rich. Lots of yeast and spice again, also an odd metallic/iron like taste.

Mouthfeel is solid, good carbonation and a pretty full body.

Decent beer, hoped for more, definitely wish there were more nutty flavors.
