On tap at Bailey's Range, St. Louis.

A - Poured a cloudy amber color with a small, tan head of sudsy foam. It left behind some soap-like residue of lace.

S - It smelled smoky. A bit like bacon or pulled pork.

T - Good smoky flavor that reminded me of some bacon. Toasty malt backbone and a hint of spiciness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This was really interesting. A Ruachbier that wasn't overdone.

Pours a slightly hazy, copper color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of pale malt, slight sweet malt, and smoke. Fits the style of a Rauchbier. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of smoke, slight sweet malt, slight hop, and a hint of yeast. Overall, the smoke is more subtle than I expected, but the feel is great, and the blend was balanced.

served at the Urban Chestnut Tasting room

a-looks like a traditional brown ale. minimal head with good lacing

s-this really does smell like smoke. the smoked malt comes through while still smelling like a traditional brown ale

t-at first this beer feels like your drinking a piece of ham. It was really strange with all of the smoke followed by the brown ale flavor. After awhile you don't really notice the smoke but it still is nothing special

m-average mouthfeel. The smokiness makes it hard to really get an oppertunity to distinguish any mouthfeel

o-Its really hard to ignore the ham taste. I normally am up for experimental beers but this ode to Newcastle was an experiment that is probably better left to memory
