This “export” style lager, brewed for our annual Oktoberfest celebration, is malty yet well balanced like the bier traditionally served at Oktoberfest in Munich. However, our Festbier has a tale/tail of its own–Oachkatzlschwoaf (pronounced “o-cat-zel-schwof”) translated is “tail of a squirrel”…just a little Bavarian humor.

Amber colored with almost orange highlight in the color. Minimal head retention. Good clarity. Nutty aroma with a bit of light malt. I definitely get plenty of the German lager yeast and it smells very fresh. Smooth and a bit carbonated on the palate. A bit salty and nutty in profile. Fairly refreshing.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of pale malt, sweet malt, hint of caramel malt, European yeast, and a hint of hop. Fits the style of a Marzen / Oktoberfest. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt, sweet malt, European yeast, hint of hop, hint of wheat, and a hint of caramel malt. Overall, weak appearance, but decent aroma, body, and blend.

Poured into a stein from a 1 pt 0.7 oz bottle.

Pours a gorgeous strong copper amber color that is hazy and cloudy. Looks like a REAL beer! Nice light white head that is dense and a bit short and recedes pretty quickly down to a thin film.

Aroma is strong and robust. Strong bready grain notes with some good slight caramel sweetness. Earthy, grainy and some slight grassy hop notes. Yum. A true and complete lager aroma. Slight hoppy spice in the nose as well.

Flavor starts off with fresh baked bread notes and some nice slightly sweet caramel and dough-ey notes. Earthy and grainy with some good spicy and grassy hop notes. The brew is fresh and light with a good slick slightly sweet malty finish and a good dry bitterness.
