DC is known as the City of Monuments, and our Monumental IPA is a fitting tribute. Monumental IPA is distinctive for its complex aromas and flavors, and it strikes a perfect balance between hoppy bitterness and malty sweetness.

A: Murky sunkist orange/over-ripened mango red hue. Very fluffy white head with excellent retention.
S: Earthy, woodsy, peppery. Orange citrus and vanilla undertones.
M: Slick and oily, medium body. Medium-high carbonation. Some pithiness at the end.
T: Prickly pine and bright grapefruit combined with a moderate minerality give the impression this was aged in wine barrels. Metallic afterbite and spicy hops. Strong grass notes. Distinct patches of toasted caramel with orange bursts of sweetness.
O: More of an American/English hybrid if you ask me. The Liberty and Magnum hops speak to its European heritage, as well as its pronounced malt flavor, and combined give it a pleasant aroma. Not a hop bomb for sure, but the malts can carry the hop oils nicely...perhaps too nicely as the Amarillo hops gives off too much metallic that hampers the enjoyment of the hop bitterness.
I'm interested in comparing this beer to Maine's Peeper, as the hop bills are nearly identical, save for the substitution of Cascade for Liberty.

From a bottle. Pours a clear amber color with white head. Malty aroma with some citrus. Medium body. Caramel malt flavor with a citrusy hop finish. Old school

Pours amber with a medium white head. Aroma is hoppy floral and kinda sweet. Taste is pretty standard hop forward IPA. Decent malt balance and easy drinking. Feel is good not overly thick but decent mouthfeel. Overall it’s a good IPA.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber color with a modest off-white head that slowly reduces and leaves a bit of lacing. The nose gets a bit of honey and citrus. The mouth gest a bit of bitterness and some pine.

Light amber with chill haze, finger of slightly off-white head, great retention, rings of lace
Big earl grey tea aroma, some toasty malt
Toasty-sweet malt, bergamot, some fresh pine and grass
Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated
Seems like more of an English IPA than American, and if judged as such, is really good

Hazy, reddish amber appearance with a fairly large off white head and good lacing. Muted, bread-like malt aroma with some citrusy hops catching up near the finish. Earthy, hoppier taste turns a bit more herbal with a touch of citrus and pine in the aftertaste. Enticing but not overwhelming.

April 12th, 2016 - More floral and sweet than hoppy, this Monumental IPA commemorates the sweeter side of the style. The aroma starts sweet with fresh honey, orange and Iris coral notes, which is both strong and still appealing. The body is of medium weight, and delivers more bitterness, but even this is clouded out by strong notes of tangerine and clementine. Another excellent IPA, even if it leans more towards sweet than savory.
