Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Excellent solid pop off the cork, very little give needed and a good pow and smoke. Vintage 2014.
Deep chestnut and mahogany brown body color. Opaque and pretty solid. Creamy and big frothy head, a mixture of bubble bath and cream appearance, with a very light tan color. Easily rocks out at three fingers and settles with one easy simple finger. Very solid nice looking brew.
Aroma is quite different on this guy. Real nice nutty sensing milk chocolate and mixtures of sage herbal tones and a soft mineral sense. Malt forward, with just a touch of funk. Real nice aroma but doesn't get into very discernable or unique sensing esters, bouquet is a little subtle. Still solid aroma.
Palate provides a much more interesting experience. Mineral and dry funk with just a touch of warmth. Creamy and velvety tasting chocolate, even perhaps an almost Belgian like sweetness that comes through the mid palate. Tingly finish. Light almost hinting boozy warmth of brandy like qualities.
While the yeast is taken from a strain of wild raspberries, fruit character on this is not really present to me at least. Perhaps aged out, but certainly a delicious beer with a great malt and yeast flavor still remains.

750ml bottle poured into a goblet
A: Dark brown color with a 1+ finger head
S: Quite malty along with yeast caramel
T: Malts initially, wild yeast makes for a midpalate with nondescript complexity then a slightly sour/bitter/short finish
M: Medium-bodied, malt/yeast/bitter/sour
O: Nothing particularly wrong with the beer but also nothing compelling; its various elements lack focus

apparently fermented with a yeast isolated from a single raspberry, but without any fruit in it, I quite like that idea, a cool project to say the least. it pours a real thick dark reddish brown with a permanent half inch of some of the densest Belgian looking tan head I have seen, and just a bit of sediment from the bottom of the bottle. looks rich and luscious. it smells nice too, I don't know why I find myself smelling a little tart raspberry in with the caramel and toasted malts, but I do, and its a nice contrast, a little acidity in with all the grain sweetness. I am very impressed by the yeast, at first it seemed under flavored because I was expecting a wild ale, sour and funky, and this is neither of those. its a kind of spontaneous fermentation I have not really encountered before, and I like it a lot. plenty of round grain flavors, sort of like a dubble in its base, but more going on, certainly on the yeast side. the fruitiness in the flavor is like prunes and figs, les like raspberry, but its a cool sweetness in the middle there. the yeast dries it all up pretty well and leave an unfamiliar flavor and feel on my tongue, which I also like. I would have loved to have all these beers side by side, but this was a cool experience. I expected a much more wild yeasty beer, but instead its elegant and beautiful without the usual flavors. clever and smart, well worth the money.

Leave it on the shelf. Not worth the dollars spent.

This is a remarkable project in a moment when even the best breweries become a tad too recognizable because of house yeasts, no matter how lovely. This Vinland smells like round, ripe berries.
