A-Pours close to black. Nearly zero head. No head leaves no lacing.

S-Deep, rich notes of melted chocolate and cold, dark roast java. Burnt oatmeal. A bit of dark fruit but nuanced with chocolate so it reminds me of a Raisinette. Nice.

T-Definitely oaty. The chocolate and coffee are bit more relaxed here. The coffee/mocha/chocolate combo lasts and lasts but is never incredibly intense. I am pretty impressed with the flavors.

M-Light for the style bit a creamy. Supremely drinkable; would be a great 6-pack brew. Soft bubbles.

O/D-A very tasty offering by Mystic. Decent price point too. I love Oatmeal Stouts and expect a lot from them. This one delivers.

Lord Falconer pours flat black into the glass with no foam or lace on the glass. Looks like a glass full of motor oil.

The aroma is a pleasant combination of toasted malt, chocolate, a hint of smoke, roast malt and a touch of coffee.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is smooth, a bit oily with low carbonation. The flavor is roasty with chocolate, smoke and coffee mixed in. Finishes dry with some nuttiness and grassy bitterness. Once gone the roast, chocolate and coffee lingers on the palate.

A very tasty beer that's not over hopped like many other stouts. Good balance of flavors.

A: Color is dark brown/ black and slightly translucent. Poured with a nice tan head that disappeared very quickly. Little lacing, little carbonation. Looked pretty flat by the end of the tasting.

S: A pleasant roasted grain and malt scent. A bit of coffee.

T: I thought this was surprisingly tasty. The taste was dominated by roasted grain, coffee. This is suppose to be an oatmeal stout and I can note some creaminess, but not as much as I expected. Not a lot of complexity here. Nice bitterness and coffee taste to the aftertaste.

M: The biggest negative for this beer was the mouthfeel. Very thin and watery for an oatmeal stout. The flavor was nice but the watery mouthfeel made the beer seem to lack substance.

O: In some ways this was a very drinkable beer. Not too high in alcohol, I could enjoy more than one of these on a cold winters night. If you wanted the look of a stout in a tasty but thin non viscous beer, I guess this fits the bill. I enjoyed drinking it but it did not seem right for the style. I probably would not seek this out.

A: Pours a dark black color with very little head that quickly diminishes to practically no bubbles whatsoever.

S: The aroma is not particularly aggressive with no one scent being greater than any other. Intermingled I am picking up some oats, light malts, some cream and light coffee notes.

T: Roasted malts, a hint of lactose with cocoa and some oats present as well. Nothing dominates but they mingle well with each other.

M: Lighter amount of carbonation and a nice slick feeling on the tongue, not a particularly thick beer, but enough viscosity to hang on to your tongue for a short while.

O: Overall, quite tasty. One could definitely drink a few of these in a row, the lower ABV certainly lends itself to continual drinking.

Lord Falconer opens to a rich, black, sugary stout aroma that is divided nicely between, on the one hand, ash, tobacco, coffee, black malt, chocolate malt, and touches of smoky peat, and on the other hand, heavy whipping cream, toffee, molasses, and brown sugar. Additional nuance comes from vanilla bean and hints of white pepper, as well as milk chocolate. Bits of thick brown breads, toast crust, and whole wheat dough add earthiness, and a selection of dark fruit esters, including fig, date, and raisin, add lovely fruitiness. As a whole, the nose is very nice, being well balanced and, for a beer that only clocks in at 5.4% ABV, surprisingly aromatic at first. There is a bit of a problem with staying power, the aromas seeming to fade after only a minute or so, and what’s left is quite light and weak (except for the lingering cigarette ash), but still present enough to come across as enticing.

On the tongue, the beer is big and ashy, with tobacco, cigarette ash, black malt, burnt toast crust, and smoky wood being the first notes to come across. These are joined by lighter notes of toffee, caramel, molasses, and brown sugar, as well as whole wheat dough and cereal grains. The fruit esters are almost gone, however, leaving the sugars without much variation, and the beer seems to rely heavily on the black malt and ash notes to make up for this. In subsequent sips much of even the initial nuance of the flavors is gone, and what comes across is mainly light woody ash and even lighter molasses. The aftertaste is mainly ashy, with some sugars left over, and at least the ashy notes linger on the tongue for a good while. Mouthfeel is a strange combination of silky and medium-light, and carbonation is medium-light, both of these creating a watery sensation.

Overall, there are some good notes in here, and the beer does much to make up for the light ABV. In the end, however, the lack of heavy sugars creates a weak and watery series of notes, as well as mouthfeel, which detracts from the notes that are present, leaving mainly ash, light cream, and molasses to support the structure.
