Appearance: 1/4 inch head, high carbonation, bright-gold in color, hazy

Smell: apricots and pineapple juice

Taste: apricots and pineapple juice dominate. Some funk and grass also there

Mouthfeel: sweetand funky with a dry end, light body, high carbonation

Overall: I love how juicy this is. The apricot and pineapple juice permeate the taste in an exceptional way. Actually liking this better than their winter saison. I need to find more bottles of this.

Batch 002

Pours a nice big fluffy airy 2 finger head that fades semi slowly with spots of soapy lacing, slightly hazy mostly clear golden honey colored.

Nose is quite nice, starting with the farmhouse saison aromas, grainy wheat and plenty of wheat like, light grassy straw like malt aroma, with light saison like spices, and a nice rustic farmhouse aroma, and hint of citrus peel. Then the hops, starting with a bit of a grassy earthy spicy hop character, with waves of citrus mixed in, a bit of tangerine and grapefruit as well, little earthy grassy terroir hops.

Taste brings a similar mix of saison and hops. Starting again with the farmhouse saison flavors, nice rustic farmhouse funk but lighter side, with plenty of wheat again, a little toasted, some grainy straw and grassy like malt characters, with mild saison spices and orange peel pith like bitterness with touch of tannins even. Then hops and plenty of em, again waves between the two characters, starting with the earthy spicy variety, bringing more grassy terroir flavors, and a big bitterness bite. then waves of mild citrus come through, with a light tangerine and grapefruit pith again, but unlike the nose these hops mostly get washed away by the earthy bitter hops. As it goes an interesting but slightly unpleasant lightly astringent spicy hop character starts to dominate a bit and moves towards the finish, and lingers for a while on the finish making the finish a bit too bitter. Finish is also dry but slightly sticky, with more light orange peel bitterness, and light saison funk.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb.

Overall pretty nice, a nice blend of saison with a decent farmhouse funk still leftover, hints of the spices, nice wheat and saison malt characters, all that blended nicely with a good and really interesting hop blend. The hops mix between the grassy noble hops, earthy terroir of the Japanese hops, and citrus slight fruit blend that mostly handles well, but the finish brings a bit too much astringent spiciness, otherwise nice.

Mystic again strikes gold with a saison. They have mixed results with other styles but seem to hit strong with saisons and this one does it again.

Citrusy, light and well carbed. It's got a pilsner aftertaste.

Bottle from Ball Square.
Pours a hazy yellow orange with a huge bone white head that dissipates quickly to a cap on top. Lemon and orange creamsicle aromas up front with a sweet light sugariness and a peppery yeasty funk rounding it all out. The flavor is sweet with candied orange dipped in a mix of honey and pepper. A little bit of biscuit and earthy hop flavor mixed with a general yeastiness rounds out the flavors here. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a slick bubbly mouthfeel. Decent beer, a bit bubbly but tasty on this summer day.

VT Brewfest sample.

A-Hazy Jane pours hazy yellow.

S-Modest, barny Saison yeast with fruity aromas as well. Lemons, apples and other light fruit aromas. Lighter hops and some wheat.

T-From my quick iPhone notes, Hazy Jane is more elaborate on the tongue. The yeast is more intense and so is the wheat. It is also pretty well hopped, with an interesting hoppiness. Fruity. Grassy.

M-Medium bodied. Normal carbonation. Forgiving finish.

O-I enjoy the Summer Saison idea. This one seems like a good way to execute that idea. I found it to be pretty enjoyable.

From the label:
The new summer seasonal wheat saison, finished with a blend of citrusy American and Japanese hops, then dry-hopped with light, aromatic Tettnang noble hops.

As a saison, I can't say that I think this is overly good. On the other hand, if I forget the style and just drink it for what it is, then I say good job Mystic.

For me, the wheat carries the day to the point that it practically makes this a wheat beer with some citrusy hops as their description would lead you to believe rather than a saison. Nice while more chilled, the flavors became a little more muddled as I finished the warming bottle. Some nice white fluff appears and is slow to recede while you get an intermediate bronze/gold coloring in the glass.

I don't get any of the grassy or funky unpredictably that I expect from in my saisons. There most certainly is a nice citrusy component going on that I would chalk up to Sorachi Ace or Citra or both perhaps.

A good summer beer, but not what I'd go and buy if I was in the mood for a saison and certainly a warm weather beer only.

one of the best beers i have had from mystic, who makes nothing but outstanding beer, and continues to blow me away with every beer they do. this is a sorachi ace based light saison. creamy and wheaty and full in feel, flush and palate coating, but lighter enough and carbonated enough to be really drinkable. i love the feel, its elegant and memorable. the nose tells me sorachi ace hops right from the outset, with that classic lemon butter aroma and the light wheat malt not standing in the way. the flavor features the sorachi hops well, they are quite forward in it, with more of a noble type hop finish, more grassy than citrusy, and clean too. the saison yeast strain in this one is more robust and flavorful than others from mystic, its farm and summery and blooming, a nice compliment to the unique hop complexion. overall a very special brew, and the fact that the bottle sells for under ten bucks is rad. can't get enough sorachi ace hops, and this is a great showcase of it. reminds me a little of brooklyns sorachi ace, and thats a real high compliment.
