On-tap at The Apple Valley Tap House. Nice to have a solid place with decent beer & good food south of the river!

Pour is odd. Clouded yellow, but as it sits, it gets clearer & clearer, as if the cloudiness is caused by big particles that are falling to the bottom. Smell is faint: wheaty. Not much going on there.

Wodan Weizen is a hefeweizen; this much I know for sure. Banana, clove, & yeastiness jump the palate like a well-telegraphed burglary.

Uncharacteristicallylike, that's all I have. It's a hefe. Nothing special going on, not great, but pretty good.

Appearance: Arrives with a hazy goldenstraw color; the modest head leaves a few strands behind

Smell: Banana pudding with a hint of clove

Taste: Banana, vanilla and wheat bread, up front, with hints of lemon and clove developing by mid-palate; agree the swallow, the banana pudding elements dominate the finish

Mouthfeel: A very creamy body, with medium heft and a bit of zesty carbonation

Overall: A fantastic domestic hefe with an amazing mouthfeel; love the hint of vanilla that produces a banana pudding effect

On tap at Acadia.
Poured with minimal head. Has a thick heavy almost syrupy appearance and heavy almost cloudy appearance with golden yellow color.
Aroma is fairly heavy on banana and some clove . Enjoyable enough.
Good wheat flavor with more subdued banana/clove with an additional mild spice like flavor.
Rather heavy feel. Nicely carbonated.
Drinks nicely and overall enjoyable beer.

A-Poured out of growler into pint glass gives a generous 2 fingers of head. Appearance is the typical ruddy yellow of a hefeweizen. Foam rings the glass and hangs on for the ride.

S-Yeasty banana like esters are present. Notes of clove inviting that first gulp.

T-Tastes like a Hefe, lots of yeasty goodness. Bananas and clove jump out with the wheat with just a hint of spicy hops at end, cleans up very nicely.

M-The mouthfeel is where this beer really shines for me. Heavier mouthfeel than most hefes, but yet doesn't keep you from wanting another drink. This beer is down right creamy. Has a nice malt backbone.

D-I could drink this one all night.

O-This beer matches up favorably with any hefe out there. Hope they keep making this one. Together with their dubbel and Belgian strong, Harriet has put together some outstanding beers. Great time to be a beer lover in Minnesota!

On-tap at the Birchwood Cafe in Minneapolis.

Pours a golden straw color, a really rich yellow, the color of summer wheat, and hazy. Brought to me with a small head which lasted a little while but left very little lacing. Nice carbonation visible in the glass.

Smell is of ripe wheat, some banana, some yeast. Light on the spice. Quite rich, and sweet, with a pleasant sweet graininess. Nice and fruity, with a lot going on.

Taste - really well put together. Light spice, banana, wheat. No bitterness. Once again, it could use a bit more spice. A nice low-level sweetness that is present throughout. Finish just fades away, not really drying, but something about it is very refreshing. Definitely on the sweet side for a hefe, but very tasty.

Mouthfeel is excellent. Good medium body, silky smooth, with perfect medium-high carbonation.

A fairly sweet hefeweizen, really tasty and refreshing. I like it, and will definitely drink it again. This is my first beer from Harriet, even though they're right down the street from me, and I'm planning on hitting them up for a growler soon!

On-tap at Buster's on 28th into a pint glass.

A: Cloudy pale orange body with practically no head - just a few white bubbles around the extreme edge. Disappointing.

S: Tons of banana, some clove, and a distinct touch of nail polish remover. Weird, but not unpleasant.

T: Follows the nose, plus some sweet malt. Kind of like a banana creme pie. I like it, but the solvent is still there, which I'm sure would bother some people - it's fine by me, though.

M: Lively, spiky, hugely frothy. A bit much - where was all this carbonation in the head?

O: This was a strange one, and one that I'd really like to have again. My wife absolutely loved it, but was the only person at our table who didn't pick up on the nail polish remover. Huh.

Cheers!

Picked up at the brewery. Cloudy mustard color with a massive head that hung on for a long time. Heavy lacing is left on the glass.

Heavy banana aromas. The wheat is also well received but not picking up any spice.

Banana sweetness upfront. The malt adds some breadiness. Just a faint hint of lemon. Just a little bit one dimensional but it hits the right area.

One fabulous mouthfeel. Almost seems bock strength. Chewy and full. Great velvety smooth texture.

One of the best American Hefes that I have had. If we could of just got some clove in the aroma and flavor this would be one of the best I have ever had.

Growler from the brewer, 6/18/11.

Pleasing golden hue with foamy head, looks nice. Aromatic complexity for the style, lemony, banana,as well as multifruit notes, orange, cherry. The crisp light fine carbonation is great. There is so muh fritiness yet not sweet at all, crisply acid, tart and tangy. Hints of clove, and all the fruits above represented. The key is the balance that is struck perfectly, there is banana but not nearly overwhelming or dominant. The slight tangy wheaty sourness and the fruity notes are done so well, they nailed this style. One of the best non-German HW I have had.

Hefeweizen
Harriet Brewing

On tap at Stub & Herb's. My first beer from the new Twin Cities brewery, Harriet, and I am impressed! Poured into a shaker pint.

Hazy ripe orange with a small head from the "pub pour". No retention and no lacing for that reason and hence merely average. Aroma is strongly estery and perfumy with lots of banana-clove and hints of bread and bubblegum.

Taste has all these elements and a faint tartness; nice! Finishes dry with a long and subtle banana-clove aftertaste. Light and crisp with carbonation, this one drinks very easy. Recommended!

Harriet Wodan Weizen, from a growler.
Hefe Weizen brewed specially for MN Craft Beer Week. Originally tapped at the Blue Nile, Friday, May 13. These notes are from a growler purchased the next day.

Cracking the cap, and banana wafts out, sure as shooting.

Pale apricot appearance, very clouded, with a slim, soon-gone head. A bit disappointed by that. I like a huge head on a hefe wizen. We get it a little bigger on tap. Although, not big enough.

Aroma: banana cream pie, some citrus esters and wheat-y feel. Not picking up clove, so much. Very pleasant, however.

Tasting it, …brisk carbonation, minor but present bitterness. Wheat flavor is here, very refreshing, extra-consumable (remember that, my new word?). This gets better as we go, the flavor gets fuller, the texture is larger and warmer, it feels more and more like a weizen ought to taste. Lush, smooth, and wonderful. Banana flavor hasn't left though, it hangs on to the palate, like an old dog. Getting sweeter, getting spicier. I'm liking this more and more.

A very good Weizen! Great notes of banana and cloves.
The mouthfeel was a little thin, and not real chewy as described on their website. A very good offering from a new brewery!
The only negative I have on this brew is that when I had it on tap, it was under-carbonated. Weizens are usually highly carbonated and have a nice head, that sticks around... Not sure if this is the brewery's fault or Stub & Herbs fault on how they served it...

Had at Town Hall Tap. Wow. Exceptional beer. Poured a light orange with a 1 inch head to it by the time it got to me. Very thick and chewy texture, with notes of banana and citrus in nose and taste. I could see myself drinking quite a few of these, hope it stays around all summer.

This beer pours a cloudy pale orange color. The head is two inches in height, and recedes quickly into a small cap of lacing. The aroma is of banana, cloves, and a hint of lemon. The taste is full of cloves and over-ripe banana. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and a very chewy texture. I don't recall even drinking an American brewed hefe that is as chewy as this one. Overall, this is a very traditional Bavarian style wheat beer, and I am completely in love with it. I hope this one stays around a while as I can see myself drinking a lot of it this summer.
