16 oz can. Pours light ruby brown with a small off white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.

The aroma is roasty chocolate malts and a little smoke.

The flavor is sweet roasty nutty chocolate malts with decent hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is light bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, a decent dunkel...much better than their IPA.

tough to be objective about the latest pint can from bonfire, who has someone very intelligent and witty working in branding by the way. hard to tell if its the beer or the style, the ever unpopular and often lackluster dunkel lager here. very dark brown in color, hazy with some yeasty chunks, but a sturdy almost nitro looking thick cream head an inch tall and well lasting. it smells like stale bread, or cereal, but there is something unflattering about the grain profile both aromatically and in the taste. the lager yeast is generic too, and maybe needed more time, there is some residual sugar on the finish. i get a caramel or burning sugar flavor from the grain too, and very little bittering hops for balance. not a bad beer, easy drinking enough with its bubbles and soft body and low alcohol, but the flavors just are not particularly appealing, at least to my palate. im scoring it a little better than how well i liked it, because the craftsmanship is still to be respected despite the style, which often leaves me underwhelmed. not my favorite stuff from bonfire, but i am impressed how fast they are cranking out new products.

Interesting dark and grainy brew that breathes a little life into the often bland style. Dark brownish amber with a golden glow in the narrow Wittekerke glass. Foam lasts well and there is a sudsy mouthfeel that would shame some German beers.

Roasted malt with just a little sweetness, but more edgy and bitterish with a distinct scorched tang. The malty mellowness returns in the aftertaste along with a resiny hop hint. Overall, a more flavorful and sharpened-up version of the familiar lager. Thoroughly quaffable and pleasant.

From the 16 oz can purchased at Grapevine Liquors in Denver. Glad to see so many small, remote breweries canning their product so we can taste more of them.
