The reviews are from several years ago so maybe they revamped the recipe. I found this very malty and toasty almost porter like, definitely no bong water lol, I liked it

I was expecting a smooth, malty experience. I've had bonfire beers before and they've never disappointed. Instead I get a beer that smells and tastes like bad marijuana, a smell I'm intimately familiar with, working 3 blocks away from a grow op in Denver. This beer has the hop profile of an IPA with none of the redeeming malt characteristics. It's bitter and caustic with 0 smoothness or taste beyond over steeped hops. I would not recommend this beer to anyone who enjoys ales. If you're looking for pure hop flavor with no balance otherwise, and I mean this as a fan of real double{PAs, give this beer a try. Otherwise, give it a pass. I don't know what the IBU on this is but I'd put it at a mouth feel of at least 70 with a throat feel of 90. It seriously tastes like bong water.

I've never had a brown ale so hoppy. I've also never had a brown ale that tasted like bongwater. I'm not saying anything about their other brews, but this one is just bad.

On tap at a local restaurant. Deepest opaque brown, small head, smells of graham crackers, caramel. Taste follows with malt, chocolate. Velvety feel, very good.

Roasty malts, cacao on the nose. Rich chocolate flavors. Sweetness from malts are not overpowering. Dry and clean finish but leaves you smacking your lips.

Pours a nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, with a nice one-finger creamy off-white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice chocolate, coffee notes. The taste is malty, chocolate, coffee notes. Medium body. Overall a nice brew.

Nice balance between the roasted barley and the Willamette hops. The roasted barley flavor is similar to an espresso with a subtle notes of pecan & burnt caramel . The hops adds a noticeable bitter quality.
