Poured a thin head on a black colored body.
Well, the ginger comes through strong in the smell. The cardamon and the roasted malt are there too.
The taste is roasted malt at first and then the spices take off with the rest of the profile.
The texture is smooth with a crispiness and moderate carbonation.
The does not do it for me. The smell is way off and the taste has to many spices.

A- pours black with a small creamy white head that has decent retention, leaving a small layer floating in top

S- lots of spices coming through, getting cooked vegetables, nutmeg & ginger, cooked spinach and some herbal spices

T- the spice flavors follow the aromas with cooked spinach and vegetables, slightly tart mid-palate, nutmeg, roasted malt with a touch of chocolate on the back end. This one just seems all over the place

M- medium body with low carbonation, foamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish

O- this seemed like an herbed beer that was trying to be a stout. The flavors just didn't blend well for me. It may have paired better with food rather than on its own

22oz bomber. Released January 10th 2012. Served in a tulip.

Pours an opaque dark brown with two fingers of dark beige foam. Settles to a thick ring. Bits of lacing.

Aroma of a lot of spices. Ginger seems to be the strongest with licorice right behind that. Some sweet chocolate malt backs things up.

Flavor seems to match the nose quite accurately, although not as sweet as I was expecting. Middle and finish are quite drying and spicy. ABV is buried in the flavor, but you feel warmth after several sips. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste.

Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Overall the feel tilts towards thick, but only slightly.

A "winter warmer" in July. Why not?

Thanks to leschkie for this one!

A- Pours a very very dark brown color, that has maroon edges. Gives a moderate sized head, which goes away quickly.

S- A bouquet of spices on the nose. Cinnamon, allspice, dark malts wth chocolate and nuts. A little overwhelming, as a spice forward beer is not my cup of tea.

T/M- Thats really good. I'm pleased to find the balance of spices is not out of whack, as the aroma had me worried. Has some tart fruits like cherries and blackberries, mixed with s nice sweet nutty/chocolate malt, finishing with warming winter spices. Very spicy, but balanced and smooth. Carbonated just enough to keep the heavy malts and warm spices from weighing too heavily on the palate.

O- Definitely a winning spice beer! I liked the balance.of flavors in this and the dark fruits were an incredible way to lighten the cinnamon/nutmeg.

A - Pours a dark black with just a hint of brown mixed in and a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of holiday spices with some clove, cinnamon, and ginger. There is some dark sweet and roasty malts beneath with a hint of dark fruitiness.

T - Starts off with some holiday spices with some cinnamon, ginger, a hint of sweet dark fruit, and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, a bit of roasted malt come through with some more spices and a bit of of light fruity flavors. The finish is a mix of sweet lightly roasted malts with spices, dark fruit, and a hint of booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate-light carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet, spicy, and warming finish.

D - Very drinkable. Really nice malt and spice balance with good complexity. The finish has a great mix of being sweet and warming.

Very pleasant mouth-filling carbonation. A deep brown in the Brigand globe with nice foam. Sweet and spicy at first sip. Quite a mix of Christmas cookies and spice cake. Raisins and ginger, a little candied fruit. Quite aromatic.

Big beer but not alcohol tasting. Quite a mix of dark malts and some charred flavors. Buttery as well as bitter in the aftertaste. Dark caramel and nuts.

22 oz bottle from the Olive Tree in Ocean Beach.

On tap at Mohawk Bend

A - Dark brown with off-white head that doesn't last especially long.

S - Smells mostly like winter spices, ginger, cinnamon, clove, and more. I get some sweet malts underneath too. Very solid for the style.

T - Bigger than I expected based on the nose. Tastes similar to the way it smells, but more intense. A lot of gingerbread cookie flavors and sweet caramel-like malts, with a hint of roastiness to it too.

M - Much more smooth and solid than it might have been, especially considering its 8.2% ABV. Heavier than I expected, but in a good way.

O - An excellent spiced winter ale,one of the better examples of the style. A little heavier, more substantive than Anchor's Our Special Ale, and I think I actually like it a little more.

On-tap at Beachwood Brewing

Pours dark brown in color with a small light brown head. There is an overwhelming aroma of licorice to this. The ginger and other spices are there, but the anise really overshadows them. A bit of roasted malt and chocolate is present, maybe a touch of toast. The flavor has a similar intense anise/licorice flavor to it, which works if you are a fan of that. Lots of roasted malt and a bit of vanilla, actually. Not bad, but not really my favorite.

22 oz. bomber,

A: Pours a deep mahogany brown with a small off-white head presumably from all the spices. No real lace.

S: Real nice nose, heavy on the grains of paradise and citrus. Gingerbread for sure, very Christmasy.

T: Great spiced malt flavour. Again, lots of gingerbread and orange. Christmas cookie like. A higher gravity Old Fezziwig if you will, I certainly will.

M: Medium to full-bodied, creamy, smooth, spicy finish.

O: This is well balanced and thank goodness not underattenuated. It's just where it needs to be. This is a great winter beer, I just hope they release this before Christmas this year.
