Notes: Growler pour from tap! :)

A - Pours a deep, obsidian black, with a nice tan, two-finger head. Retention and lacing are solid. This is a winter ale that means business.

S - Smell is of chocolate, spices, vanilla, and roasted malts. Moderate, floral hops.

T - Taste is of bittersweet, roasted chocolate malts, winter spices (coriander, allspice?), balanced by dark, piney hops. There's elements of stout, CDA, and winter warmer here, but they all work very well together.

M - Full bodied, slick, and smoothly carbonated. Alcohol is well hidden.

O - Overall, this was a nice offering from a brewery I haven't heard of, and fans of any big, dark beers will love this. I'll be sure to try any other offerings from American that I may come across!

A: Poured a deep, rich brown with good carbonation leaving a nice dirty white cap

S: Mmmm. Cocoa, some allspice perhaps, roasted malt

T: Very nice. Lots of chcolate, smooth, some spice with a nice, prominent booze sting. Lots of flavor here but a bitter cocoa, grain bite on the end leaves me in arms

M: Medium to bog body, well carbonated, creamy

O: A good representation of the style. There are few Winter Warmers I enjoy: Cabin Fever and Winterfish. This, fpor me, takes the cake. A treat to drink, very tasty and well done.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a solid black color, with about 3/4 inch of dark tan head that had very good retention and good lacing.

The aroma was a subdued, smooth and balanced blend of malt, yeast and a slight hint of spice. The taste was much bolder than the aroma had led me to expect. Big malts, a nice hit of yeast and spice, and just enough of a hop tickle to add some tang.

The body was full, smooth and even. Drinkability was very good, you could easily have several of these during a wet, chilly Washington day. Overall, a very nice take on the style, certainly worth trying when you see it.
