Notes/Commercial Description:
Three Blind Mice is inspired by our favorite qualities from English brown ales, German altbiers, and Irish reds. Mother’s trio of beer connoisseurs sipped away many a night, working to find this ideal combination. Mother’s beautiful brown beer is medium-bodied with caramel, toffee, and subtle chocolate malt flavors—all balanced by moderate hop notes and a clean, dry finish.

Three Blind Mice combines components of several malty beers for the unique brown beer experience you've been missing. After lots of research to find the perfect styles for our base, the clear winners were the lighter body and caramel characters of Irish red ales, the soft chocolate and toffee flavors from English brown ales, and the hop component and balance of German altbiers. We used traditional elements from each beer style and added our own touch for one incredible brown beer.

This brown ale pours from the bottle to a dark brown color and perfect clarity. It offers a nose that is one of sweet, lightly roasted malt and caramel. The foam level is a less than I would prefer, but it isn’t too bad and there is enough present that most will not notice.

Moving to the flavor, this beer is good- tasting overall and like its name suggests, it hits you from different directions because it is supposedly an ale that combines the qualities of three different types of ales into one. The standout flavor is caramel malt, but there are some other flavors present as well, such as chocolate, roasted malt, and toffee. There are some slightly bitter, earthy notes in the finish but the beer leans toward the sweet, malty side overall.

This beer is a little lighter in body than other brown ale, but there is enough good taste and quality to make this beer deserving of a try. I am not so sure I would refer to this as a German Alt, but judged as an American brown ale, it is a good- tasting brew that may not be the most complex on the planet, but still has enough good flavor to recommend.

Picked this up on a recent trip through Kansas City. Tasted 24 February 2013.

Pours quite dark brown, appearing opaque without light behind it. That light reveals red, deep cherry red. One finger of light tan head, good retention, solid fingers of lacing. Nice.

Smell is good. Warm, slightly buttery and toasty. Like a buttery biscuit. All in the malts, and all very smooth.

Taste is where this beer takes a downward turn. It's actually kinda bad. Dull, a touch herbal but almost flavorless, but for an unpleasant medicinal twang. Really not working for me. Not sure if I can finish this.

Mouthfeel is fine. But I want this beer out of my mouth.

Borderline drainpour. Not terrible, but definitely worse than okay. Strange thing is that several elements of the beer are actually pretty good. Not sure what happened with this one.

A - Poured a pretty reddish amber color. It had almost 1 finiger of a slightly offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing.

S - Very light smelling beer. I had trouble picking up much other than a slight malty smell.

T - Quite tasty. I noted hints of caramel and coffee. Thre was even slight chocolate hints. Sweet up front with a slightly bitter finish

M - I found it to be light bodied beer with low carbonation. It felt creamy in my mouth

O - Very drinkable beer. Npt a super complex beer but still enjoyable and I will definately be picking up more of their beers.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 9/25/2012. Pours hazy reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, apple, bread, grass, light chocolate, light citrus, light nuttiness, and herbal hops. Decent aromas with good strength and decent balance; too fruity. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, bread, grass, light chocolate, roasted grain, light citrus, and herbal hops. Light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, bread, grass, light chocolate, roasted grain, light citrus, and herbal hops on the finish for a short bit. Good flavor balance, but the flavor robustness is definitely lacking; zero cloying flavors are present on the finish, and quite dry on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a slightly creamy, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a decent brown ale. Very drinkable with solid flavor balance; but definitely could use more robustness of flavors, and a finish that is not as dry. A fairly enjoyable offering.

I just bought some of this beer from a local grocery store. From the "brown beer" on the label, I was kind of expecting either an english or american brown ale. That is certainly not what this beer is.

The pour is ruby-colored with a white 1 finger head that has moderate lacing. The color is reminiscent of that of an irish ale like Smithwycks. The initial smell had a sweet caramel, nutty tone, with slight hoppy floral/grassy notes. Others on here have stated that this beer has a malty character, but I really wasn't able to pick that up in the taste. While there is a bit of caramel/toffee at the start, the middle and finish are pretty much dominated by a slight peppery bitterness of hops. The taste and body remind me a bit of a toned-down APA. Maltiness does come out a little bit as the beer warms though. All in all, not a bad brew for kicking back and tossing back a couple with friends. However, from the labeling, I was really hoping for a good malty english or american brown ale and this beer is far from that!

Mugs up to ye' laddies!

Side poured with standard vigor from a bottle into a pint glass. No stanges here, just pint glasses.

Appearance - Pours a clear reddish brown color, like that of fall leaves in a pile. Decent one finger head with minimal retention and lacing. Cool packaging and back story, I like the idea of the brew.

Smell - Toffee, malts, caramel, almost a wood smell in the brew is interesting. Light hops notes.

Taste - The caramel and toffee certainly make an appearance here, along with the light hops. Very delicate, not too overwhelming in any direction. The caramel and toffee washes over the palate, followed by malts and finishing with the hops.

Mouthfeel - Hop finish, smooth, medium bodied and medium carbonation.

Overall - A decent beer. I do like the packaging, it looks really cool. But it is just an average beer. I would drink it again, probably not going to buy it again. Just nothing really exciting at all about it.

a deep ruby/mahogany pour with a finger of creme colored head, great retention. smells of chocolate, pistachios, toffee. the flavor is of slightly bitter toasted grains, dark chocolate, faint hint of dark fruits (plum mainly), a bitterness that is almost unidentifiable hits you towards the end.. almost a burnt caramel flavor. medium in body, moderate carbonation, has the typical brown ale feel.

not a huge fan of this one.. nothing special really, a bunch of off flavors and smell that don't really blend in well together. i'll sick to their ipa's for sure.
