Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Not quite English. Not quite American. Foggy Notion is a big ole’ 100% Ozarks-born barleywine ale. We have taken the heart of our standard issue Foggy Notion and captured it in this limited release bomber. Straight from the sherry barrels to give this full-bodied beauty a fruity, nutty, sweet, rich brown sugar flavor with the faintest hints of oak. Single barrel Foggy Notion is not for the faint of heart. Bottle conditioned so feel free to lay this bottle down for a spell and see how the flavors evolve.

A - Pours a murky caramel color with burgundy hues. Has a light khaki head that dissipates into a thin ring around the glass.

S - Malty backbone, toffee/caramel, brown sugar and light dark fruits.

T - Great great great! The taste follows the smell with a kick of the sherry barrel. Even on the end taste there's a mild tartness to it. Loved it!

M - Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Not cloying or too sugary sweet.

O - An interesting and great barrel aged barleywine with a twist of sherry. I seriously dug this beer.

A - Burgundy color with a one-finger, khaki colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of sherry with some fruity notes. Nice toffee aroma, too.

T - Could really taste the sherry and fruitiness. Good sweet toffee and caramel, too.

M - Crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied to full bodied ale.

O - This is a really good sherry barrel aged barleywine.

Bottle 923 opens with a slight hiss, pours an effervescent & slightly hazed caramel/brown with 3 fingers of tan head. Clears nicely, below average head retention & lacing

S: Plums, figs, a bit of boozeyness & brown sugar & pears

T: Brown sugar, figs, dryness, faint leafy hops, raisins & a touch of port up front. More figs, a touch of toffee & a touch of leafy hops as this warms, plus more raisins & dryness. Finishes fruity, with figs, maraschino cherry, leafy hops, a touch of marmalade & brown sugar & dryness

MF: Medium bodied, lively carbonation, well balanced for the style, warming & sticky

Drinks easy for the ABV, better than the regular version, but nothing mind blowing here, but a very nice fire-side sipper. I have another bottle I will try to age at least a year before I give it another go...

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one during the Churchill's weekend festivities.

Bottle # 2012/480.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, toffee, and some fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with a fruity sherry flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and interesting.
