Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY.

Pours a golden, glowing yellow color, slightly hazy, with a small half inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells tart and funky, with some white wine, lemon, grapefruit, and pepper.

I'm not generally a huge fan of witbiers, but of course I'm gonna like a barrel-aged wild version of one. I get wheat, tartness, light horsey funk, lemon, grapefruit, light airy white wine, and pepper. Lots of stuff going on here. The funk has a sort of sweatiness that's hard to describe- you'd know it if you tasted it. It works well.

It feels slightly undercarbonated at this point- it seems like the bottle conditioning is not quite there yet. In about 6 months I think this would be essentially perfect. There is also a slightly watery finish here. Again, it looks like I opened this one a little too early. There's a crisp, and slightly sweaty mouthfeel.

This is a very interesting beer. It seems like in about 6 months or so it'll be perfect, but unfortunately, I believe a beer should be ready at bottling. Despite this nitpicking, this is still a pretty tasty beer.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. Batch #3 June 2014

A- Pours a medium golden color with a 1/4 inch white head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves tiny specs behind.

S- Incredible Brett aroma springs from the glass bringing mild notes of green olive and lemongrass. Super funky barnyard, horseblanket, all that goodness.

T- There's an immediate tartness that quickly washes away to a clean wheat finish. Simple but extremely effective. So drinkable, so tasty.

M- Somewhat sharp, tight and dry. Medium carbonation and a light body.

O- I don't know if I happened to crack this bottle at the right time or what, but this is amazing. I can't stop taking sips it's so damn good. So funky in the aroma and initial flavor but so clean in the aftertaste and mouthfeel. Absolutely exquisite.

Enjoyed out of a brown 750 mL bottle marked with Batch #2 March 2012. This is the second bottle I've had from this batch, with the previous bottle being enjoyed about five months ago. Poured into a Boulevard Smokestack Series tulip glass.

Appearance - Body is a hazy straw yellow with deeper lemony highlights. Aggressive pour is necessary to yield a one finger head of frothy, bone white microbubbles. Lacing is slick and melts back down into the body pretty quickly.

Smell - Reminds me of a Berliner Weisse in many ways, after a good year and half of aging. Slightly tart and with a hint of funky brett. The spices that I got from the younger bottle, white pepper and coriander, have now faded into near obscurity, with the remaining element favoring the coriander.

Taste - The smell lets on more tartness than is actually delivered by the taste, but the coriander and pepper are also more prevalent here, so a fair trade off. Lemon zest and a nice round wheaty characteristic are present, providing a good balance of bite and smooth. The brett is again present, imparting some wet grass notes to the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and at this point, light carbonation as well. I do seem to remember the younger bottle having a bit more effervescence than this version. Crisp, dry finish.

Overall, a delicious witbier that really seems to be thrown into "tweener" categorization given the brett and age on this bottle. Funkier than a traditional witbier, which gives it some of the characteristics of tart wheat beers and/or saison-style ales. I do hope that Anchorage brews another batch of this one so that I can taste it fresh, but that doesn't really seem to be their M.O.

It may be a Belgian-style witbier in inspiration but Anchorage Brewing's finished beer extends well beyond the flavor definitions of the base style and takes on a wild life of its own.

But retracting just a bit, to the eye Whiteout Wit fits the bill with its bright canary yellow hue that's cast upon a yeasty cloud. The beer's spritzy carbonation looks and sounds like champagne as the bubbled tickle the nose with the first sips. A constant supply of carbonation ensures that the head remains intact. Its foam laces on the glass with interesting specs of foam that take on a pattern of star formations.

The common aromas of wheat, lemon, orange peel, coriander, and pepper are met with a corkish wood note, limes, oak, white wine, lemongrass, and equine must. Both soft with wheaty spice and challenged with earthen notes gives a glimpse in how early Belgian farmhouse ales might have smelled.

The taste of wheat rises first, but bring with it only moderate sweetness that's supplanted quickly by earth and spice. The supple flavors of orange peel, apple, and coriander are uprooted by the taste of lactic tartness, crab apples, dried lemons, sandalwood, weathered oak, sweat and brine. Balancing elements of hops are bolder than expected but take on saison-like proportions with lemongrass, mint sprigs, and peppercorn. Only the slightest note of detergent pronounces just before the finish.

Semi-sweet but tannin-dry, the beer's early wheat and pilsner malt textures are pushed aside and favor the beer's peppery prickle and powdery dryness that finishes with a minty-cool evaporation and mouth whetting evoking power.

It's another magical and whimsical ale that uses a lot of traditional and indigenous flavors but combines them in neuvo rustic charm.

750 ml bottle was poured into a tulip.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin puffy layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Funky barnyard, apple, pear, oak, vanilla, spices, and chardonnay grapes.

Taste: Oak, vanilla, spices, bretty funk, barnyard, apple, pear, chardonnay grapes, and wheaty malt.

Mouthfeel: A little chewy, smooth, a little funky, light bodied, medium to high carbonation, and very drinkable.

Overall: This was a solid funky witbier. Delicious and balanced. I enjoyed this beer a lot.

750 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy yellow with a medium fizzy white meringue head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is slightly sweet bready malts and some wit spices with some stinky musty yeast and a little brett.

The flavor is sweet tropical fruits and lemon with some dry champagne notes and some vinous alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with kind of sharp carbonation.

Overall, a nice wit. I like what the barrel did to it. An earlier sample had more predominant brett.

A really nice, refreshing beer. It pours a light straw color with a white head. The spices come through nicely and it has just the right amount of carbonation.

Was so skeptical when jh1982 went and pulled this bottle out the freezer from craft. Pours a cloudy bretty beer in a northern lights yellow glow. Nice aroma, chunky brett, a little citric rind, a lemon and orange presence.

Wow, am I impressed, this is easily one of, if not my absolute favorite witbier on the first sip alone. Brett covers up the coriander to keep it from being too strong. White wine like notes, some pear, some pepper.

$14 a bottle make it a tough call, but its top notch for style, even if it especially blurs the style line, but its for the better.

A- This beer pours a pale yellow body with a racing matrix of microbubbles and a thick bubbly head of snow white that breaks up but sticks to the glass in lumps.

S- The full brett aroma of decaying leaves and silage has a nice skunk funk that grows as the beer warms. There is a lemony funk that grows more into a lemon zest as the beer opens.

T- The dry white cheese rind flavor has some white grape juice hints and bright oak notes underneath. There is an apple pulp flavor that fades to a peppery heat in the finish with some coriander and lemon tartness that follows along.

M- The light mouthfeel has a dry texture with a crisp fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- The brett dominates especially in the nose but that is a good thing. The bright lemony character is a bit flurried but everything seems to work together.

Pours a clear yellow with 2 fingers of thick white head that leave a nice cap. After a while the clumps in the cap look like a pellicle.

Lots of funk up front, very woodsy, I get a lot of chardonnay like oak on the nose with a bit of tart lemon behind that. Some spicy Belgian yeast.

Taste is similar to the aroma with a bit of a coriander aftertaste. This one was much more tart then I was expecting and I really liked it. Very well balanced flavor with just the right amounts of tart, funk, oak and spice.

Somewhat thin, very dry, very easy drinking.

Overall this is a really good beer. The brewer comes with an impressive pedigree and I am excited to try more of their beers.

Many thanks to AugustGarage for this treat. He always brings it when we do trades, so solid.

Caged and Corked, popped the cork with a loud POP! Brett tartness hit my nose immediately and got me excited about this beer. It pours a bright yellow color- pretty cloudy. I can't see my fingers through the other side of the glass. For a wit, this is pretty light colored- unique. Smell- tart cherries, a nice funky waft of brett, maybe some white wine notes, perhaps champagne. Light, effervescent, airy. Taste- The tart cherry flavor hits the top of my palate, it is a tingy feeling (just a bit metallic maybe? Its not off putting though). the spices of the wit around the sides of the tongue, definite sourness that makes my pucker up a bit. Definitely pretty lemony. This beer is pretty unique. I don't feel like it sits well in the Wit category, and it isn't 100% about the Brett either. One of the only real effects from the Brett is the tartness, but not much horseblanket here- the citrus from the lemon flavors probably balance that flavor out.

Overall, it is refreshing, interesting, light, and nice. I would seek this out again for sure.
