750ml bottle thanks to largadeer.

Slightly hazy golden-yellow color with a small white head.

The aroma is a little strangely funky with some sunscreen, oak, pineapple, and brettiness. Maybe a bit vegetal.

The flavor is better, although there’s a bit of Coppertone sunscreen. Also pineapple, coconut, chardonnay, and oak barrel.

Medium-bodied and dry with average carbonation.

Overall, not great. Maybe with some age this could mellow out a bit, but for now it’s probably more useful to spread on your skin for a sunny day at the beach, as the SPF is no doubt pretty high.

750 ml bottle was poured into a tulip.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin puffy layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Funky barnyard, apple, pear, oak, vanilla, spices, and chardonnay grapes.

Taste: Oak, vanilla, spices, bretty funk, barnyard, apple, pear, chardonnay grapes, and wheaty malt.

Mouthfeel: A little chewy, smooth, a little funky, light bodied, medium to high carbonation, and very drinkable.

Overall: This was a solid funky witbier. Delicious and balanced. I enjoyed this beer a lot.

Thanx Lynn,

Batch #2 Mar/2012.

Poured about half in a mug and the other half in a snifter:

A: hazy yellow colored body, two finger white foamy head in the mug, one finger and a half white foamy head in the snifter both die at the same pace into the body in about a minute, both have the same amount of light lacing on the sides of the glass

S: it seems to be a bit stonger in the snifter (weird, well, I only poured some in the mug for proper glassware etiquette), anyways, what I get is a little bit of hops, spice and lemon peel, light peppercorns all meld together pretty good

T: slightly bitter initially, but after letting it warm for a good three minutes, there is a slight sweet element coming out, no wheat is tasted throughout the entire beer, wine like aftertaste, dry bitter finish

M: it drinks like wine and is light in body, carbonation is pretty smooth (probably because I'm having this fairly old), carbonation is different for the style but that could be because of the aging in the Chardonnay barrels

O: not really a witbier by true style, but I'm realizing this is Anchorage. Kudos to them for trying something different. Since I'm not really a wine drinker, I really don't think I'd have this again, but will recommend if you like wine
