Poured from a cork and cage 750ml bottle. Batch #4 June 2015 bottling.

Pale yellow golden body, a full light bubbly head of bubbles that waned down to a thin line along the edges of the glass. Constant bubbles rising from the bottom to the top.

Picking up on the coriander, bitter orange peel, and of course that Brett funkiness.

Decent witbier flavors of coriander and orange and lemon with a spiciness on the end from those black peppercorns. Some oak thrown in; there is also a subtle amount of sweetness as well.

Light mouth feel; dry clean finish and the fizzy carbonation is nice as well.

Love the flavor with this beer, a real treat. Nice light bodied beer with a ton of well balanced flavors.

750ml bottle - $15.00 at Tasty Beverage Company in Asheville, North Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a pale yellow body with noted clarity and a near nil, thin white head.

Smell: Harbors a scent of shredded crustless bread, old lemons-n-limes for a soft citrus nature and a fair amount of buttery white wine with a vein of mild, salty funk.

Taste: Very minor maltiness, only hinting a little hay-hewn cracked grains. Very minimal sweetness. A little lemon, a little lime and a sip of white wine giving a bit of buttery oakiness and subtly minerality. Slight albeit growing spiciness settles on the tongue, hinting at the peppercorns and earthy coriander. A bit more floral, citrus on the back-half. Drying, floral with a touch of orange juice on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: An easy-drinking, albeit less than typical witbier. Though, for one's money, you'd be just a well served by a Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca.

A really nice, refreshing beer. It pours a light straw color with a white head. The spices come through nicely and it has just the right amount of carbonation.

Very happy with this beer. Nice funky flavour with oak, lemon and a touch of spice. Orange and coriander. Dry Bretty finish. Quite fizzy, which is fitting for the style. Refreshing and the Brett adds a great twist to a witbier.

L: Super light slightly hazy golden...basically no head or carbonation.

S: Oaky old house funk ..lemon citrus tartness some grape/white wine.

T: Tart citrus funk ...oaky wine barrel some dry pear and apple.

F: Very light slightly on the watery side.

O: Great funky witbier worth a try for sure.

A bright yellow glow with chunky haze besets the tulip. Aroma was substantial brett, wine barrel, citrus, lemon, almost spruce like tree vibe.

Super tart and sour, spice rack is way behind in the flavor, oak contributions, dry. Good tart tang on this one, one of the best witbiers ever, prolly the best. This and bottleworks XII baby.

A - Pours a clear light yellow color with very thin white lacing, moderate and steady carbonation.

S - Lightly bready, funk, white grapes, and oak.

T - White grape chardonnay, oak, and tart/tangy funk from start to finish. Also... pears and green apple come through as the beer warms.

M - Light medium body, very dry finish, a lot of soft but sprightly carbonation on the tongue.

O - This is always an enjoyable beer and a nice palate scrubber.

I was really looking forward to trying this since I had a couple of the other Anchorage bottled offerings including Love Buzz...shared this at a recent sour beer tasting I hosted.

Enjoyed chilled from the corked and caged750ml in a glass.

The color is cloudy golden with a thin white head with fine bead and no lace to speak of. The smell is slightly lactic and lemony up front with a noticeable brett aroma that invokes tart and floral with a wheat and slight spice with a hint of tropical fruit. The feel is tangy with medium carbonation and tart medium body with a mostly dry finish.

The taste is very tangy with a light lemony quality with a subtle wheat flavor which also has a toasted element and lots of brettanomyces in the taste which brings a tropical fruit tanginess and citrus in the finish with dry lactic quality however there is not any alcohol in the taste apparent to me. Overall I was not dissapointed in fact this lived up to expectations and exceeded based on the way the base wit and brett worked together -almost like a strong berliner since it lacks the prominent spice you may expect from a traditional witbier.

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden body with a head that disappears as soon as it got there. Not much lacing or retention going on.

S - Nice funky brett aroma on the nose. Lemon peel, black pepper and a little grainy wheat.

T - Lemon peel, earthy and black pepper. Light tartness from the brett.

F - Medium bodied and light carbonation. The minimal "woosh" on popping the cork had me worried. The carbonation should be higher so it can dance all over the tongue.

O - Enjoyable, but not what I've come to expect from Anchorage.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pale yellow. Slightly hazy. Pours without much of a head at first, but eventually some white bubbles well up. Settles to nothing.

Smell - Wheat is strong. Lemon. Yeast and spices. Oak ends up being the most sustained aroma.

Taste - Lemon and wheat up front. Lemon actually gets stronger throughout and dominates the flavor, giving it a light tartness. Oak tempers it a little bit. Some of the coriander comes through in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium low carbonation. Light body.

Overall - Pleasant flavor, but it drops off leaving only lemon, really. Still, I quite enjoy it.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY.

Pours a golden, glowing yellow color, slightly hazy, with a small half inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells tart and funky, with some white wine, lemon, grapefruit, and pepper.

I'm not generally a huge fan of witbiers, but of course I'm gonna like a barrel-aged wild version of one. I get wheat, tartness, light horsey funk, lemon, grapefruit, light airy white wine, and pepper. Lots of stuff going on here. The funk has a sort of sweatiness that's hard to describe- you'd know it if you tasted it. It works well.

It feels slightly undercarbonated at this point- it seems like the bottle conditioning is not quite there yet. In about 6 months I think this would be essentially perfect. There is also a slightly watery finish here. Again, it looks like I opened this one a little too early. There's a crisp, and slightly sweaty mouthfeel.

This is a very interesting beer. It seems like in about 6 months or so it'll be perfect, but unfortunately, I believe a beer should be ready at bottling. Despite this nitpicking, this is still a pretty tasty beer.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. Batch #3 June 2014

A- Pours a medium golden color with a 1/4 inch white head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves tiny specs behind.

S- Incredible Brett aroma springs from the glass bringing mild notes of green olive and lemongrass. Super funky barnyard, horseblanket, all that goodness.

T- There's an immediate tartness that quickly washes away to a clean wheat finish. Simple but extremely effective. So drinkable, so tasty.

M- Somewhat sharp, tight and dry. Medium carbonation and a light body.

O- I don't know if I happened to crack this bottle at the right time or what, but this is amazing. I can't stop taking sips it's so damn good. So funky in the aroma and initial flavor but so clean in the aftertaste and mouthfeel. Absolutely exquisite.

More of a sour beer to me than a witbier. This beer has a ton of brett that lends funky barnyard, hay, and lambs wool aromas. Lemony and tart, with the classic wit spices playing their more traditional role. An interesting blend of styles.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with fizzy white head, sparse blobs of lace on the glass. Smell: bread dough, coriander, herbal brett, pepper note. There's a promise of brett on the label and a hint of it here but it's not doing much yet. Taste: doughy with plenty of lemon, light pepper; mild tartness of lemon and grape skin and slightly lactic. Grape skin and oaky note in the finish. A nice take on a wit with restrained brett presence. Batch #3 June 2014.

Batch #3 - June 2014

Reviewed April 19, 2015 from a 16oz Belgian Tulip.

Appearance: Thin, dissipating head, slightly hazy yellow, with large bubbles.

Aroma: Bready with a hint of funk and fruitiness.

Flavor: Big hit of lemon flavor from the Sorachi Ace and peel. Slight tartness which I assume is from the peel. Touches of oak.

Mouthfeel: Medium light bodied, explosion of carbonation, slight linger of lemon and oak. Pretty damn refreshing regardless.

Overall: Hands down the best Wit I've ever had.

750 ml bottle was poured into a tulip.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin puffy layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Funky barnyard, apple, pear, oak, vanilla, spices, and chardonnay grapes.

Taste: Oak, vanilla, spices, bretty funk, barnyard, apple, pear, chardonnay grapes, and wheaty malt.

Mouthfeel: A little chewy, smooth, a little funky, light bodied, medium to high carbonation, and very drinkable.

Overall: This was a solid funky witbier. Delicious and balanced. I enjoyed this beer a lot.

Poured a clearish yellow with two finger head and nice lace retention on top of an aroma of spice and yeast, along with minimal citric notes and that brett is coming through. A touch of sweetness in this one for some reason, as the yeast is prevelant and helps make the beer fuller bodied and smooth. The spices and citric notes are there and the brett gives it a nice funky taste on the backbite which is pleasant. An interesting beer as the brett addition works well and is something I wouldn't have thought would work with a witbier, but it adds some complexity to beer without overshadowing the traditional witbier components (yeast/wheat twang. clove/corriander spices, lemon/citric tastes).

Two tasting cups while on a Black Country Bus trip: sorry if I took someone elses cup, but one wasn't enough to rate/review properly for me.

Pale, but bright urine colour with a froth of white bubbles.

Aroma was semi-sour white wine and musty yeast, throw in some lemon peel for good measure.

The taste a mixture of the smells with added spice notes along with a grainy hint.

Fine beer: sadly my taste buds were not too sharp by the time this arrived, in fact they might even have been a bit shoddy!

Hope I've done the brew justice.

A: Pours a very light yellow color, with a fizzy 1 inch white head. Very bubbly.

S: Extremely sharp, and slightly funky. Smells like tart lemons mixed with Chardonnay.

T: tart, peppery, and extremely dry. Lemons, peppercorns, and lots on vinous qualities.

M: Extremely light bodied with a very dry feel. Lots of sharp carbonation.

O: surprisingly drinkable. Not overly flavorful, but I find myself liking it as I drink more. Very sharp and dry, but crisp and refreshing at the same time. Not great, but better than expected.

A: Very pale yellow color with a one-finger head that quickly settles; good carbonation
S: The lemon from the Sorachi Ace hops come through quite strongly along with a bit of apple & Champagne yeast
T: Again some lemon, toast (again a bit Champagne-like) and some sourness from the Brett. Perhaps a bit thin though a lengthy finish
M: Light-bodied, pleasant carbonation
O: Well-made overall, nice complexity, I like how the Brett & Sorachi Ace hops interact with their unique characteristics

Bottle: Poured a clear bright yellow color ale with a medium pure white foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of Brett and Chardonnay is quite dominant with light peppercorn and spicy yeast notes also perceptible. Taste is a good mix between some dry Brett notes with some Chardonnay notes with some clearly vinous notes and some spicy peppercorn notes which don’t really fit in too well with the rest of the flavours. Body is light with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is quite enjoyable though with the amount of Brett and Chardonnay notes I am not sure I would call this a wit beer any more. Some spicy notes of peppercorn could be removed since they don’t really bring anything valuable to the whole mix.

Enjoyed out of a brown 750 mL bottle marked with Batch #2 March 2012. This is the second bottle I've had from this batch, with the previous bottle being enjoyed about five months ago. Poured into a Boulevard Smokestack Series tulip glass.

Appearance - Body is a hazy straw yellow with deeper lemony highlights. Aggressive pour is necessary to yield a one finger head of frothy, bone white microbubbles. Lacing is slick and melts back down into the body pretty quickly.

Smell - Reminds me of a Berliner Weisse in many ways, after a good year and half of aging. Slightly tart and with a hint of funky brett. The spices that I got from the younger bottle, white pepper and coriander, have now faded into near obscurity, with the remaining element favoring the coriander.

Taste - The smell lets on more tartness than is actually delivered by the taste, but the coriander and pepper are also more prevalent here, so a fair trade off. Lemon zest and a nice round wheaty characteristic are present, providing a good balance of bite and smooth. The brett is again present, imparting some wet grass notes to the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and at this point, light carbonation as well. I do seem to remember the younger bottle having a bit more effervescence than this version. Crisp, dry finish.

Overall, a delicious witbier that really seems to be thrown into "tweener" categorization given the brett and age on this bottle. Funkier than a traditional witbier, which gives it some of the characteristics of tart wheat beers and/or saison-style ales. I do hope that Anchorage brews another batch of this one so that I can taste it fresh, but that doesn't really seem to be their M.O.

Pours a white body with white grape like colors. There's campaign like carbonation driving up from the bottom of the glass but not much in the name of head.

Sour notes from apple and pear with a touch of white grape. Lemon sour notes are rather strong and citric.

I really like where this one goes. Sour, yet never biting or letting those notes dominate. A lot of fruits such as lemon with pears and apples. Dry in the mouth and virtually no sugary sweet elements, just enough malt is here to keep things in line.

There's a touch of bite here, a lot of carbonation, and it ultimately is very drinkable.

My second beer from Anchorage and they've hit this one out of the park. I'm not sure what to think about a nearly clear beer. I also find these dry sour beers tend to not have a lot of aroma. That said this beer's parts shouldn't be used to judge it.

Pours a clear color, with little color. Thick, white, fine foam. In fact, this is very highly-carbonated. Lace is thin and insubstantial, though.

Nose is fruity and yeasty. I get a kind of champagne crispness more than a beer kind of experience so far.

Taste encompasses more lighter notes, and a brisk mix of fruit, spice (coriander), orange peel, and wheat sharpness...really a complex flavor profile, and highly drinkable.

A surprisingly delicious and enjoyable brew, and a unique experience.
