750 caged and corked bottle purchased at The Foodery in Philly, PA. Batch #3, August 2012.
A - The cork comes off easily and with a loud pop. Pours a super hazy golden straw color into my Delirium Tremens tulip, with a massive 4 finger bright white head that sticks around for a while and leaves frothy patches of lace.
S - Obviously the hops have mostly fallen off after almost a year, but there's still a helluva lot going on here. Funky barnyard brett, sweet underripe fruit, grass, hints of coriander and spice, some mellow white grapes.
T - the kumquats and brett are apparent upfront, with wet grass, cellar must, and sweet fruit. This gives way to some more earthy, slightly spicy notes, and definitely picking up a good hit of coriander middle of the mouth. Finishes off with a kind of sweet/tart white grape flavor, more funky yeast, and a slight bitterness. Layers of complexity.
M - Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Smooth and refreshing. Easy drinking at 7%. Dry finish. Lingering funk, sweetness, and slight bitterness. Mild tartness as it warms. Slightly over-carbonated, but hey, that brett doesn't quit.
O - Well this was my first 'White IPA', although it reminded me more of a brett saison, which isn't a bad thing. Very complex, and even more so as it warms. They took a risk doing as much with the beer as they did, but damn if it didn't pay off. I would like to try a fresh bottle at some point to compare experiences.

750mL corked and caged bottle poured into Dogfish Head goblet. Batch #6, April 2014.
A - Pours a fizzy, lite beer yellow, with some serious haze. About a finger of bright white head lasts for a very long time. A blanket of white lacing paints the glass as I drink. Looks like I would hope a Bretty-IPA would look.
S - Tart, peppery aroma full of sour fruits, bubblegum, and a touch of funk. Lacks the candy sweetness typical of the Belgian IPA style. I consider this a good thing. Complex and inviting.
T - Starts with lemon tartness, quickly replaced by a belgian spice billing. Nice dry, piney hops on the back end. The finish is full of citrus. Tart, but lacks the funk I picked up in the nose.
M - Prickly carbonation with a fantastic dry finish. Drinks true to its mid-range ABV.
O - This is the first time I have seen this (or any Anchorage beer) in Delaware. Hoppy Belgian beers are typically among my favorites so I had high hopes for this one. I couldn't have asked for more in the aroma. It is a complexity of brett, citrus, hops, and spices. The flavors followed suit, but I would have liked a little more. There are no flavors out of place, but the flavor came off a bit diluted, the more I drank. A great beer, but I was looking for something with more flavor. Still among the best int he style I have ever had. Well done, but I won't be running back to the store to get another $11 bomber.
