Comes in a 330ml brown bottle, cool wood carving picture on the yellow label, gold foil around the neck and cap, and best before date marked on back label. Pours out a hazed bright pale golden, head recedes immediately to a ring. Wow! The banana on the nose is intense, very sweet, very overpowering. Flavour is sticky sweet banana as well, with a rich, pleasant aftertaste of, you guessed it, banana. Full bodied mouthfeel up front, becomes oily on the palate. Very easy to tell that this was crafted with love, I'll definitely try this again, but couldn't drink more than one in a sitting. Something definitely worth trying at least once.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is definitely heavy on the banana. I also get a little grain, but banana is the star of this show.

The flavor is sweet, syrupy bananas with some sugar added.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

330ml bottle, 3.6% ABV, and BB June 2013 - that's got to be the sugar, eh?

This beer pours a hazy, equally cloudy, pale straw colour, with one finger of thin foamy white head, which leaves a few late to join the sinking party specks of lace around the glass in the process.

It smells just like those banana peanut-shaped candy of my youth and various Hallowe'en excursions - sweet marshmallows, and saccharine, chemically-enhanced banana essence, period. Not much else, unfortunately. The taste is more of this best-forgotten childhood sugar indulgence - with some enhanced candy sugar notes, for shits and giggles, and some mild leavening hops to further confuse matters.

The carbonation is very sedate, the body sickly syrupy in its perfunctory medium weight status - the smoothness rating falling under the same caveat. It finishes sweet, 'fruity', and more sweet - the somewhat expected beer components really overburdened by the guest ingredient.

I'm not really that against banana flavours, as my experiences with wits and hefeweizens can attest, but this just takes the cake - fake fruit candy manifested as a 'beer' - blah. Not for this camper.

Pours a pale orange colour with lots of bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Had a thin white head that fell away to leave only a ring. Looks alright.

The smell is banana chips and candy sugar. A touch of grape is tossed in there and there seems to be an underlying citrus aroma. Mostly bananas though, and I like the smell of bananas.

Woah, not exactly what I expected. Taste is interesting to say the least. Sweet then tart then sweet again. Banana underlies the flavour but a sticky candy sugar is the real finisher here. The citrus is stronger in the taste than it is in the smell, giving almost an orange zest flavour to the drink. Unique.

Mouthfeel is somewhat thicker, sticky like a syrup. The beer starts with an almost cola level of carbonation, but it settles down rather quickly. Average at best.

If you have a sweet tooth, and like banana, then this is a very easy drinker. However, as much as I like banana, I find the sugar a little bit overdone.

Not bad, but not something I'd have often. Tone down the sugar and this would be a nice treat.

Appearance: Crystal clear. No head. Straw colored. Beautiful

Smell: Wonderful aroma of banana here

Taste: Wow. Totally banana flavored sweet liqueur. This is a very interesting beer. traces of apple in here as well.

Mouthfeel: Heavy and sweet. Slightly tingly due to carbonation

Drinkability: i can only have one of these at a time but this is a very different and interesting beer.

33 cl bottle. Into Floris fruit tall pilsner glass. Drank at Huyghe brewery. I suppose they brew it for another company. Straw color. High clarity. Aroma of sweet banana. Ripe. Overly ripe. Taste sweet banana. Pretty much too sweet. A little sugary, would be highly drinkable for some but not myself. Interesting however.

This beer is produced for the Fairtrade organization. This way one supports the poor farmers in third world countries by giving them an honoust price for their products.

The beer pours a murky orange color with no head. It looks like unfiltered apple juice.

Smell was 100% banana, like the banana candy. To me this smells very artificial and way too dominant to be real. Further smells are covered by this banana vomit smell.

Taste is, you have guessed already, BANANA! Wow, this is no beer, this is banana juice. And to make this even more true, this is tooth-aching sweet! On top of that there is absolutely no carbonation, which makes it even less drinkable.

I am sorry for the poor farmers, but this is a one-time-only beer for me.

330 ml brown bottle with gold foil, best before Aug, 05 clipped into back label. It's banana alright, if you are expecting a strong beer flavor with a hint of fruit forget it. Pours a yellow gold color (not really the 'yellow color of ripe bananas' described on the website). Small foam with little carbonation. It is all banana - strong sweet aroma, and full on banana taste. Syrupy, but not as artificial tasting as I might have thought. Very unique product, so got a bit higher rating than other fruit beers. Dessert beer, over ice cream, etc. would be great. A bit pricey, but will sneak a glass of this to the "non-beer" freinds and see what they think.

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway (ULTRA stores a.o.). ABV here is 4.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate creamy head. INTENSE aroma of "banana split" toffees, pleasant at first whiff, then VERY unpleasant sidenotes of vomit and chemical waste take over. Sickly sweet artificial (allegedly NATURAL, "fair trade" even - good grief!) over-ripe / rottening banana flavouring. A truly disgusting beer! It was expensive, so I forced myself to finish the glass. Urk! Blah! etc. Been there, done that. Never, never again

This beer supposedly follows an ancestral African recipe. Fair trade bananas are used in the brewing process, and the fair trade products represent 69% of the ingredients of the beer.

Little head, pale golden color. The smell was clearly bananas, more something like artificial bananas, candy-like. Some sour in the smell too. The carbonation was more similar to soda than to beer.

The taste is enjoyable, very sweet, with lots of bananas. They didn’t lie, it’s a banana beer. A very pleasing mouthfeel, maybe too sweet for some palates, but ok for mine. Kind of artificial, but not too artificial.
In my opinion, the slight touch of hop in the aftertaste mixed very well with the overwhelming banana flavor.

There’s no comparison with the Chapeau banana beer: I couldn’t finish the 11oz bottle of the Chapeau, but I wouldn’t mind having another Mongozo. A special and interesting taste, but I wouldn’t drink that every day either. Still good.

Picked up a various three pack one of each style.
Pours hazy golden color soft with a white head that leaves quickly
Smell is powerfully sweet banana, let me get up it just knocked me over.
Taste is super sweet bananas. It taste like someone didn't like beer so they went and got a concentrated banana extract and poured it in a normal pils.

It's basically a flavored malt beverage like smirnoff. I'm not digging it at all.

Pours with plenty of carbonation yet hardly any head. Like soda. Color is clear and nearly like water. Dirty water. Nose is all banana cream pie. Has some malt complexity in the flavor and the yeast adds a separate fruity element aside from the banana, but this is banana-dominated. Tastes exactly like a banana Runt (the candy) but in liquid form. Or, as if someone added banana runts to ginger ale. Interesting, and I think I'll be able to finish the bottle, but this is not my thing. Not only too syrupy sweet, but it does so in a fashion that the drinker can barely discern anything else going on here. There's certainly better dessert, sweet, girly, whatever you want to call them beers available. This is probably one to pass on.

Not that much of a head and before you can notice already gone. beercolor is yellow and clowdy.
Nose is banana and much more banana overwelming every other arome this brew maybe has. Taste is as nose is but with this overwelming banana arome an enormous sweetness what is again the only thing noticable. As mouthfeel is only sweet and banana like with carbonisation in this banana. Undrinkable to me but mabey suited for somebody that likes banana and is not into beer.

Poured from Bottle into Fullers Honeydew glass

A - yellow colour with thin head that dissipates quickly leaving no lacing

S - Lots of bananas, candy sugar, very sweet malts

T - initial taste of banana which fades to a very malty kick with a touch of bittering pine. Finishes dry

M - initially very carbonated on the tip of the tounge but then goes down smoothly, but dry. If you're into this sort of beer this is a session beer for you.

Had this at an Ethiopian restaurant in Amsterdam.
Looks just like a typical Hefe, but a little more filtered.
Smell is faintly hefe-like but with a TON of sweet bananas covering up anything clove related. Some of it is the typical banana-like hefe esters, and some of it is clearly fruit or fruit flavoring.
Flavor is very sweet. A little bit of wheat mixed in with a whole lot of banana flavors. A little bit a creamyness in the back end.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, but it heads up nicely in the beginning and doesn't go flat quickly.
Drinkability varies on how much sweetness you like.
I thought this was pretty good, but it's nothing I'd drink daily. Makes for a terrific dessert drink or something you try on occasion.
I wonder if you can find this in the US?

Very sweet banana aroma a soon as the bottle opened, pale golden color, dissapointing head. Tastes like a beer flavoured with chewy banana taffy. Excellent balance, plenty of lush, sweet, malt, just enough tasty hops, light/medium bodied, sweet, tingly, long finish. Nice for a summer barbecue.

Oh my god!!! I have never tasted a beer like this! The smell of banana is filling the room. It's almost like there is banana bread baking in here. How strange is that? The taste is pure banana. very sweet. I would love to pour this on a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream, make a milk shake, or use it in a cake. This is some good shiznit!

From Mongozo comes another African-style beer, with connexions in both Belgium and Holland. According to the website this is a very traditional African beer.

This banana beer pours pale hazy light yellow, looking much like a strong Belgian blonde. Straw-like, extremely light golden. The head is a dense, creamy, styrofoamish delight. Very white, with a sparkling bubble-bath quality somehow. Good, adhesive, screen lacing. An unmistakeable thick banana aroma hits the nose immediately--you may as well be sniffing a bowl of crushed ripe bananas. If you like fruit and especially bananas, this will probably pique your palate, as it did mine, evoking desserts, candies, and everything imaginably banana-like. Though the intense banana dominates the smell almost to the exclusion of anything else, slight yeast, musk, and the light malt notes do have some presence. The aroma is also very creamy, and very spicy, with some milkiness. The mouth's first sensation is one of cloying sweetness, somehow warm and heavy, such as syrup is. Again, banana is the cornerstone of the taste, but on the front you can actually taste the fruity yeast and the light malt. There is extremely little bitterness: this beer starts and finishes sweet. Sugary though it may be, if you prefer sweet beers like I do, this is a true delight. Intensely appetising; this would be delicious as a dessert or after-dinner drink. I must admit the finish has the the most complexity: lapping the palate after swallowing, there is a slightly grassy, lemony, herbal flavour, but not hops. It is hard to describe. A low level of carbonation, and a low level of alcohol constitute this a very drinkable beverage, though it would be to sweet to consume many in one sitting. The mouthfeel is full, warm, and heavy. All said, this is engaging and unique, and very appetising for a beer lover who enjoys the sweeter side. I would definitely buy this again. The only reason I rate this so highly is because of its singularity; after all, it is the only banana beer I have tasted.

This beer bubbles up spontaneously like some unnatural scientific reaction. The smell is a crazy artificial banana, with vanilla, which for me was a good thing. It's taste was equally banana, so its "banana" advertisement was not misleading. Quite sweet, a little bit sickly so--but impressive. A nice beer for dessert, but I wouldn't need to drink this beer on a regular basis.

Pours a pale banana-yellow colour with a foamy but filmy head of white. Minimal lacing. Body looks surprisingly thick considering the ABV, leaves some good static carbonation, and a considerable static floaties quotient. Not the best look I've had, especially from a Belgian brew, but not abominable.

Very potent artificial banana characters on the nose, like those fake banana lollies you get, or the smell of banana Paddle Pops. It has a twinge of organics to it that maybe just merely steer it towards a genuine banana flavour, but mostly it smells sweet, artificial and unimpressive.

Taste is worse, especially on the sweetness levels. Ridiculously syrupy sweet characters, which merely dip into the sickly banana note. Almost nothing else to it, although I can see where the thick body comes from now - my guess is a partial fermentation or something, because there sure is a lot of residual sugar in this. Feel is syrupy and cloying.

Blurgh. Not a beer I particularly appreciate, and not one I'd like to drink on a regular basis. The banana is artificial, and the sweetness which backs it up is unpleasantly cloying and repellent. Not a great beer.

From notes, tried some at the 2011 ZBF:

A: yellow, tiny white head
S: bananas
T: like bananas, mix artificial, real & banana liquor
M: like of like watered down smooshie or juice, think in that direction
D: like banana juice

People seem to be hating this beer but I think that it lives up to its promise, it is kind of like liquid bananas, there is certainly a market for this but this is not a beer for the BA crowd

This one is all bananas, all the way through.
The minute you pop it open, the smell of sugary bananas wafts upwards toward you...
Poured into a pint glass with a vigorous pour.
Smell is all bananas...
This tastes like I'm drinking a watery Macro Brew (Read:Coors) and eating banana laffy taffy's with it...Not a horrible taste, just rather odd.
The mouthfeel is alright.

Overall, an interesting beer. Probably an OK choice for those out there allergic to gluten!

Pretty much like fermented banana. Distinct yellowish appearance, and very strong banana smell. Banana taste, but perhaps a bit drier and maltier. A little bit of citrus.

A great desert beer, I think this would go well with or perhaps even over vanilla ice cream.

I sampled this from a recent trip to my sisters in Glasgow, bought a selection of beers from The Cave on Great Western Road.

The beer poured nicely; a golden colour with a decent white head that should reasonable retention.

The smell was dominated by bananas, bananas and a bit more bananas. Fine if you like bananas.

Again the taste was along a similar line, initial banana flavour hits with a slightly tangy aftertaste.

The mouthfeel was a bit weak, more than a lager, but still not enough for a regular beer drinker. This was nice to try, however it was too sweet to drink all night. I think this would be ideal away in the Mediterranean sun on a beach in the middle of the day, however a wet day in Castlemilk probably just did not do this beer justice.

Yellow body, chill mist. White head, legs.
Holy fresh banana! Banana aroma like jumpin' out my ears.

Taste of sweet fresh bananas. Super sweet bananas on a wheat.

The mouthfeel is rather light.

This is a bit sweet to have more than one. But I would love to have one after dinner in place of desert. Wheaty enough to have beer drinkers like it, but tame enough that even non-beer drinkers could love this.
