A: clear golden colour; nice head that sets too fast.

S: smells like a pilsner should; some hops, some grains, smells rather sweet though

T: sweet, but still a lot of grains and hops that gives enough bitterness

M: rather thin like most lagers, but good carbonation

O: good, descent lager, nothing more to say

330ml bottle. Can't quite see how this is gluten-free when there is barley malt in the list of ingredients. Must be some voodoo enzyme treatment or something going on behind the scenes.

This beer pours a clear, very pale golden yellow colour, with one pudgy finger of slowly disappearing puffy and thinly foamy bone-white head, which leaves a band of layered coral reef lace around the glass.

It smells of semi-sweet biscuity and grainy pale malt, a hint of sticky rice sweetness, and floral, weedy, and mildly grassy hops. The taste is dry pithy rice, subtly gritty barley grain, a certain hard water flintiness, and musty floral, dead grassy, and somewhat skunky hops.

The bubbles are moderate, yet a bit fizzy in their frothiness at times, the body light in weight, but not particularly thin, outright smoothness kind of precluded by the carbonated zip. It finishes just off-dry, the leafy, musty hops doing more to overshadow the wilting malt than anything.

While a fair bit more palatable (read: actually so) than other gluten-free offerings out there, this is still a pretty pallid pilsener. It seems to be pointed in the right direction with the somewhat robust hops, but the overall effect is still muted. Zingy and crisp, this is not. Average and conditionally drinkable - sure, why not.

Mongozo fair trade beer, 33 cl. bottle.
Glutenfree (barley and rice).

Pale golden colour, ok carbonation in a clear beer. Fluffy white head.
Smell of grassy, but also some floral components.
Taste is rather faint. Malt notes are very modest. The hop is well integrated.
The whole aftertaste is mild bittersweetness.
This pilsner is well balanced and crafted.

Finally, an enjoyable gluten free beer!

I can no longer tolerate "regular" beer, sadly. Even just one ties me up in knots for days. Mongozo's pilsener has almost literally saved my sanity. Yes, it has barley malt on the ingredients, but for me the proof is in my lack of reaction to it. Though to be fair: I'm not one of these ultra-sensitive types that bind up at the merest touch of a dust-grain of flour, say. "contamination" doesn't bother me.

Sure, this beer is a touch on the sweet side -- but so are many macro lagers. However, this beer has a decent bitterness and aromatic hoppiness to it that counteracts it decently.

It lacks a bit in body, but again -- it's no worse than a macro. Plus it is unquestionably refreshing, clean, and crisp. The head disappears quickly, but it does leave an attractive lacing on the glass.

There isn't anything particularly remarkable about this beer, which I suppose is the point. It tastes like a decent, low-key lawnmower beer -- there's even an interesting bit of a grassy hit in the hops. I like it.

330 ml. bottle. Clear golden colour with a head that fades away too soon. Smell is mainly hops, like a classic pilsner should, with some toasted mal notes. Great. But... light body, not much carbonation and a taste that is mainly hops too, but leaning to the sweet side. Not bad, but I think it's trying to be something between a mass market beer and a good not so much commercial one. And it fails. Gluten free.
