Golden Lady is named for the brewer's favorite Golden Retriever. This review is of regular tap served downstairs in the bar. The next one will be of the limited edition firkin served upstairs.
Pours golden-straw with a quarter inch of head that died away quickly. The nose is of piney hops with some sweetness, fading to citrus peel.
First taste is piney hops followed by the sweet malt that makes the common ale a favorite LBC brew. Not over-hopped, but a welcome hoppy beer balanced by malt for the Lafayette faithful. Excellent: a standout for LBC, destined to become a favorite among regulars and worth the trip or a stop along the way for out-of-towners. It's a departure from LBC's regular beers and a real flavorful hoppy American pale.
Mouthfeel is light; it is very drinkable. At first I thought this was the long-awated marriage of the common ale and 85, but the "I am an American IPA" came and went so fast and I did not get a taste. Too bad; so sad. LBC: Please brew them both again soon!
Serving type: on-tap
