Introducing our year-round Almanac IPA, a West Coast hop bomb overflowing with hop flavors and aromas. We start with a copper-hued malt base of California-grown two-row barley, with small additions of German Vienna Malt, Crystal Malts and Biscuit Malt.

Then we start layering on the hops—grown all along the west coast in California, Oregon and Washington. We combine Apollo, El Dorado, Simcoe and Mosaic Hops to create our own unique twist on the IPA style with intense aromas of grapefruit and tangerine peel, melon, pineapple and pine trees. The finish has a clean bitterness and light saltine cracker note.

I frequently agree with Beer Advocate reviews, but the fact that this beer is not in the 90s is a travesty. This is a flawless IPA. I rank it among my favorites: Stone Enjoy By, Ballast Point Sculpin; and Boneyard RPM. It's very floral. Great aroma, great taste, and great mouthfeel. Do yourself a favor and try this one with an open mind. (339 characters)

Currently sitting at a rating of 85, which I think is low. I'd call it more a 92, 93? Very good. Has a nice take on the creamy/sweet profile that's so typical of the better west coast DIPAs, but Almanac does it at 7.5%. Better than a lot of IPAs out there. (256 characters)

Bomber bottle

Pours is hazed lighter almond, leaves nice looking fine lacing.

Nose is on the dank side

Grapefruit, mint and some soft lime on the palate.

Flavorful and quite enjoyable IPA.

Big grassy and herbal hop nose. Pours hazy gold with a 1” off-white foam cap that produces thick lace. A very creamy fruity palate offers up citrus, lemon and peach to apricot notes that lead to a big, mellow hop bitterness. The malt, yeast, and hop flavors are very well balanced and mute any evidence of alcohol. This medium bodied beer has above average carbonation but it is soft and natural. (398 characters)

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Deep bronze orange body, mostly clear as well with ample carbonation, but a little bit of head bubbles stuck to the sides of the glass. Head is a little small as well, three fingers off the pour with a classic clumped laced profile but falls to a one finger puck. Almost in the excellent ball park range, but very solid looking brew.

Nose is a bit sugary. Hints of caramel syrup but a nice tropical and fruity hop manages to jump out. Comes out like a double with some boozy sugars a bit on the bouquet though. Some leafy green mint qualities a bit as well. Overall solid but nothing mindblowing, and doesn't quite hint at that classic West coast style you think is coming.

First sip is surprisingly underwhelming and unexpected. As much as there is a strong aroma hinting at what might be coming if not totally incredible, the flavors just don't come out. A decent malt backbone containing a surprising low and less sugared sweetness than the nose indicates. Hop profile comes off as tempered and toned down. Even more so than the fruity ness on the nose hinted at. Very little bitterness even coming off this at all, with a hop angle that seems completely burried and indistinct. Mild juiced fruit, and weak malt, with just a leafy hard to pin down flavor.

This is an ok beer, the mouthfeel sort of saves it but it's a bit of a dud in the IPA realm considering all the other California breweries pumping these IPAs out. This needs and upgrade. (1,517 characters)

from a bomber pour pretty cloudy but that's not an issue. Smell of slight dankiness but also fruity. Taste of pine mixed with mango and berry. Finished dry and not to bitter but with a little sweetness in the end. A pretty balanced beer I would enjoy again. (257 characters)

A: medium gold and clear behind the haze on the glass; couple of fingers of off-white head will leave some trails down the glass

S: bright fruits and citrus, flowers and grass; hints of sweetness

T: tropical and citrus fruits, chewy pale grains and caramel malt; some rough edges

M: medium bodied on the denser side; rustic and hearty, mild aftertaste

O: a nice if not exceptional IPA (389 characters)
