Served on tap in a pintglass.
A: A gorgeous dark brown, near black, with cola-colored foam. Head doesn't last too long.
S: Not bad at all. A slightly soured, but still full, stout smell. Definite pepper smell without the burn. Nice.
Taste: ...and that's where this falls completely flat. Not much taste and what's there would be better off not being there. There's too much heat and smoke. It doesn't make it spicy, but what it does do is mask what little taste there is to begin with and what results I imagine resembles the taste of dead leaves in dried caked mud.
M: Feels decent enough when going down. Leaves a lingering slight burn.
O: I guess this shouldn't have been a big surprise considering it's brewed by Hermitage, but considering that I love stouts and chipotles, and how good of a start we were off to (appearance and smell) it ended up being a huge disappointment. The taste is my dominant criteria which is what brought down the overall rating.
