Notes/Commercial Description:
This barrel-aged ale is a celebration of the California autumn harvest. Brewed with heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay, crisp Fuyu persimmons from Hamada Farms in the San Joaquin Valley and fresh ginger from the Santa Clara Valley, then aged for over a year in white wine barrels to create a deliciously complex wild ale.

Thanks to angrybabboon for sharing the bottle.

Appearance: Bright yellow gold. Mostly clear with a slight haze. Head is small and bright white. Ok head retention leaves a small clumpy cap and collar. Minimal lacing and a mild carbonation.

Smell: Very mildly fruity. Soft funk with some minor tart notes. A hint of ginger thrown in the back. A touch of white wine and a vague sort of woodiness. A little bit of pumpkin. Some slight pale malts add some cracker and a slight bready element. Really mellow. Some earthy hints. Fruit is most prevalent but it's still mild. A touch floral as well. Warming makes it a bit more tart, but not much.

Taste: Slightly tart fruit that runs somewhere between lemon and peach. Vaguely tropical. Some decent white wine running throughout. Some lactic tartness. Malts are very pale and light, adding a very slight sweetness. A touch of cracker and yeasty funk. A bit floral at the edges with a general citrus fruit. Ginger is really mild and only really comes out as it warms. Vaguely vegetal as well but it's hard to pull out.

Mouthfeel: Lightish medium body with a mildly effervescent but not bubbly or high carbonation. Relatively clean with a slightly dry finish.

Overall: Check yo almanac yo.

Good not great. Very light and definitely feels more summery than it does fall.

Purchased in San Francisco about a year ago, split with Goblinmunkey7

Consumed 3/27/14

Appearance: Hazy gold, with orange and yellow highlights - pale around the edges - pours with a small, bright white head, fades to a wispy cap, leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Sour and tart with some interesting aromas - squashy pumpkin, seems to have held up over time - some nice ginger with some other spices - light fruitiness that I'm guessing comes from the persimmons (I'll admit that I've never had the fruit) - white wine in the back - some pale malts at the base

Taste: Tart with some spices and pumpkin - lightly sour, with some lactic notes, but mostly just tart - some nice white wine and white wine barrel flavors - light fruits, like pears and apples - ginger in moderation with some other spices - some pale malts in the back, along with a hint of pumpkin flesh

Mouthfeel: Light body, nicely carbonated, smooth and crisp, finishes dry

Overall: You have my persimmon to try

Based on the quality of Farmer's Reserve #2, I'm not surprised that this is quite tasty. The pumpkin isn't really prominent, but it's there. The combination of tart, sour, pumpkin, spices, and white wine really works, probably because nothing is over the top.
