I hit the BBSC on my way back from Fenway park the other day based on some positive feedback I had heard from others about it. It is located in the space that had been Vinny T's for a while and I believe all of those are out of business now.
You walk in and there is a curved bar off to your left with seating for maybe fifteen people. The space is nice looking enough and the bar stools were comfortable but thats about where anything positive I have to say about this place ends. They are owned by Lyons group which runs a pretty decent operation around town with their numerous bars but none of them really have any kind of beer selection that a beer afficionado would find better than average.
I did find DFH 60min on tap and it tasted decent enough and my wife had a stoli-soda and the 2 combined were $16 which I thought was pretty steep. I'm assuming it was like $9.00 and maybe $7.00 for the DFH which I would say is not a very good value.
The real kicker was some of the nonsense that the bartenders tried to tell me. Firstly, it took a good 5 minutes after sitting down just to get someone to take our drink orders. Then when I saw the DFH tap handle, I asked which Dogfish it was and I was told--"That's the dogfish" I said, " I understand that--I am wondering which beer by Dogfish is on that tap ?" The girl looked at me like she didnt know the answer to my question and I said "Is it the 60 minute IPA ?" She quickly said yes and I ordered it with some question as to whether or not that would be the beer I was getting. It was indeed and it tasted fine. Then the male bartender comes over and says "Oh you like the DFH? That is one of their lighter styles" I said, not really, its an IPA. He proceeded to tell me about the 180 minute DFH and how that was one of the heavier styles. Out of the huge number of beers that Sam & co have made over the years, they have never made a 180 minute IPA but I figured I'd just let it slide at this point and we proceeded to leave.
In summary, the only way I'd try this place again is if I was in the neighborhood and everywhere else was packed to the rafters with people and it was uncrowded here.
