I really had some high hopes for this one. Not exactly the hop bomb I was expecting. I bought the 22 at the Pizzeria and Public House just a couple weeks ago so I sure hope they aren't selling old IPA out of their own shop (I couldn't locate a date on the bottle but you'd think they'd be selling fresh stuff in their own house). Don't get me wrong, it's a fine beer. The taste however was dominated by the malt with hops in the background. I felt like I was drinking a mild English pale ale instead of a IIPA. Their website claims "Aggressive hops and noteworthy bitterness" - I got neither. At 8 bucks for the bomber it's a little too steep to not get what you expect.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark amber color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, caramelized malts and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out with a mild sweetness from flavors of caramel and citrus followed by a strong but not over-powering piney hops bitterness. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides a decent balance. A touch of an alcohol sting creeps in as well. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this is a solid 2IPA to drink for a while.

A - Dark copper, hazy but clear, with a short white head, reducing quickly to a thin white film and extensive lacing.

S - Big hop, with floral and slightly medicinal pine, and a malty honey note.

T - Following the nose, but with a strong bitter line from start to finish, coupled with a solid malt backbone to produce a floral honey taste that is somewhat reminiscent of a honey throat drop.

M - Decent carbonation, but hop oil does build and the drying is considerable. No sign of the high alcohol content.

O - Certainly a drinkable brew, and a powerful, floral hop explosion that couples nicely with its honey and malt counterpoint. Good, but not spectacular, and not necessarily something of which I'm looking to drink a full bomber.

My first New Albanian beer the last time I saw this was in Northern Kentucky last summer, I couldn't decide on one of these compared to their amazing selection. Appears deep caramel amber with a nice off white khaki head forming thick leaving behind fine even speckled lacing. Aromatics herbal pine, citrus pith, and crushed aspirin very floral perfume like hop notes underlying caramelized malts play a supporting role. Flavor earthy citrus bitter notes big malts expose themselves, hop burps are present after a few sips I can't believe it has 100 IBUs. 8 bucks for a 22 ounce bottle this was well worth it!!! Earthy, pine coat the palate more of the citrus/crushed aspirin alpha acid inspired notes hit the palate very straight on leaving a bit of residual sweetness there's some caramel malts to balance it out. Mouthfeel is big drinks like a bigger DIPA or barleywine, take your time and share this one with a mate or two. Carbonation is a bit low hard time carrying this big brew across the palate. Overall, I've had much better BIG IPAs, this needs some work!!!
