Notes/Commercial Description:
Sound's Sommerweizen is a classic example of the Kristallweizen style that was born in the alpine regions of Germany and Austria. Crystal clear and clean with a delicate aroma of wheat and spice, Sommerweizen has a long lasting creamy head, and is refreshing, yet satisfying and full of flavor.

16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEGDT. Let the 40th birthday celebrations commence!

This beer appears a hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one fat finger of puffy, tightly foamy, and eventually rather creamy dirty white head, which leaves some decently broad swaths of Swiss cheese lace around the glass as things genially recede.

It smells of semi-sweet wheat malt, banana pudding, muddled white pepper and clove spice, earthy yeast, and a subtle mustiness. The taste is more of a sharp, almost spicy wheaty graininess, very cream of wheat-like, banana chips, dry flocculated yeast, middling black pepper dust, and more earthy, old-seeming dusty mustiness.

The carbonation is fairly tightly held, and doled out on an apparent need to know basis, the body a sturdy medium weight for the style, and tacitly smooth, with a subtle airy creaminess. It finishes off-dry, just, as the lingering wheat malt falters not, as opposed to the fruit and spice notes.

A pleasant enough, and (almost) clear hefeweizen - the full gamut of flavours informs this offering. Quite quaffable on this typically sunny day, as we cusping Leos start to get 'er going!

22oz into a tulip. Pours a clear honey color w/ a loose white head that settles to a collar and film.

Aroma is fruity and malty; fermented apricots, jasmine, floral perfume. Not sure what to make of this aroma or whether I care for it.

Taste is equal parts fruity and grainy. Floral hops, bready wheat malt, a bit of overripe banana or other sugary fruit. Slightly metallic aftertaste. Really not too crazy about this.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, just a touch prickly. Goes down pretty easy.

Overall this is one of those beers that I'm glad I got to try but probably wouldn't buy again. I'm not sure exactly what they were going for here, so I'm not sure whether they achieved it. But Sound seems to be one of those breweries that likes to experiment and I appreciate the spirit behind that, even if they can't all be winners.

This beer is a Kristallweizen, I'm not sure if it's the same beer as the other Sound example listed here, but it seems likely.

Served in straight pint glass. poured a bright, clean, clear golden-yellow color with over a half-inch of white head that dissipated very quickly and left minimal lacing.

While there was the expected wheat and yeast aromas, they completely overwhelmed by a strong ham scent. Yup, ham. There was also a bit of a smoky note as well. On the tongue, again, the expected wheat played a very minor role, this time due to an almost overpoweringly strong presence of bubblegum, banana and clove. While those features were to be expected, I don't think they should be so strong as to hide the base grain and yeast aspects of the beer.

The body was good, clean, dry and refreshing. Drinkability will depend on your tolerance of bubblegum, banana and clove. Overall a nice brew that's worth a shot if you see it, but it's a bit odd, due to the smoky ham aroma and strong bubblegum flavor.

A: Poured a glowing yellowish orange color with a nice whote cap, bubbles and lacing

S: Big wheat and a little citrus. Pretty straightforward.

T: Big wheat presence upfront, a heavy wheat at that. Some light clove with big fruity citrus botes on this

M: Medium bodied, heavier on the palate than I expected

O: Tasty, drinkable and robust version of a lighter beer but tasty and well done
