I must say Alex and his wife Gretchen are to be held responsible for getting me into home brewing. I originally had toyed with the idea and saw a Groupon for Midwest Brewing Supplies and thought "what a great deal!" but i always like keeping things local when I can and I attended one of Alex's all-grain Demos.

Not only did he walk me step-by-step through the process he answered so many questions. i went home that day with my kit that he pieced together for me to get exactly what i need (and not what someone thought "every home brewer will use"

Alex and Gretchen are SOOO friendly taking a lot of time to make sure everyone gets exactly what they want. I dont even bother looking at the prices online becuase I know that these two stand behind their products and if its a few bucks cheaper online, having someone there to answer questions is PRICELESS!

Not only do they offer All Grain Demos, but they also have all the basics, Carboys, extract kits, buckets, mills, just about anything... and to top it off they have more yeast and grains than you can shake a stick at (I tried, my arm got very tired with all that shaking). They can crush the grain for you there and even have a recipe book so you can get exactly what you want, from the grain and the yeast to anything that I can think of.

From what I hear they are also going to start classes on Extract brewing too, I hope this will continue with classes in all aspects of beer and wine making.

They also help support the local community, hosting Seacost home brew meetings (Which I have not yet attended but home to soon) and helping Portsmouth Beer Week (ask Gretchen about her Academy Award ;) )

One of the things I love about this place is that I can e-mail Alex and say "hey I totally spaced it and wanted to bottle this weekend but forgot (-- insert items here bottles, caps, San Star... whatever i may have forgotten---) and he will say, its in stock and pull it aside for me (or in most cases my fiance since she works in town) to pick up.

They are in the process off adding on and expanding, though more into a nano brewery I'm not sure how much will expand into the store. but either way I wish them the Best of Luck and I will be back.. again and again!

This is my go to place to get my grains and supplies. the owner Alex is amazing and always helpful. I always get great advice every time i go in this place and so far have never been let down. hes very laid back and simply put, absolutely loves brewing and beer. he has classes in the back room and will always give help when asked. if there are any other customers in the store they are normally very interested in what everyone is brewing or sharing a hombrew with Alex at the main desk.

Its a little difficult to find. but worth looking for.

I had picked up some free hops from Bert at Bert's Better Beers and some maple syrup from a friend in Vermont and was looking forward to brewing a Vershire Harvest Ale. Planning to pick up the remaining supplies back home in Cambridge, I decided to stop in here while visiting my mother in Portsmouth.

It was a little hard-to-find, since I didn't realize it was down a bit of an alley, but still came across it pretty quickly walking up the street. Once down the alley, you walk down a long hallway inside and into a very welcoming, uncluttered store.

My homebrewing experience is still pretty limited--this would be my fourth beer in about a year-and-a-half--and the owners were extremely helpful. Especially using unusual (to me) ingredients like dry hops and maple syrup, I was in need of some advice and assistance, so the attention--which was never pushy or unsolicited--was extremely welcome.

The selection was quite good, not as extensive as the place I usually visit in Cambridge, but A&G is newer and in a smaller city. That said, I was able to pick up everything I needed and there was still plenty to browse through and poke around.

Thanks to my lack of a scale and a few other issues, the Vershire ale was not my best work, but I look forward to picking up some supplies A&G when I'm in town for more successful brews in the future.

Solid selection of grain, yeast, hops, and basic adjuncts-- apparently gruit herbage is on the way. Decent selection of beer kits and extracts--wine kits too. Usual hardware plus custom made keggels and wort chillers. Some vintage stuff to make an offer on. Fair pricing and chill staff. I bought a slick false bottom and some racking buckets. Worth the visit but tell the dude to ease up on the Grateful Dead. Okay, I just got told by BA to add 60 characters, uhm, checked out some beer mags, they had Strange Brew playing on a b/w TV, hmmm,
