A bold endeavor for this nanobrewer. La Patente follows the tradition of the Imperial Sticke Alt by offering a unique, challenging and daring alt beer.
Served in an opaque Collins glass, this helps to maintain the sense of mystery surrounding this beer. Small, but consistent, the head is maintained throughout the drinking. Copper defines the color and is also mirrored by the taste. Carbonation is solid, without being overwhelming.
Poured at a nice cool temperature, which left the beer breath, one quickly notices the soft earthy, peppery and malty aromas. Surrounding a caramel-copper tastiness, a mild hoppyness carries throughout the tasting. Hints of citrus gradually emerge, with a somewhat nutty presence, sidetracked by some bitterness-astringency.
The finish is clean and crisp, making for a fresh drink.
Enjoyed while listing "You're pretty good looking" by the White Stripes at the Laundromat Espresso Bar (Moncton, NB), the beer shares its pared down feature, yet is somewhat more abrasive. There is a melody in this beer, but difficult to pin down.

The second beer produced by the tiny nano brewery Acaie Broue. This one is an Imperial (Sticke) Alt that clocks in at 7% ABV. As with Tintamarre this one is only available on draft at Markys Espresso Bar, Moncton, NB.
A-Brilliantly clear deep copper with a thin tan head that held on strong and left spotty lace.
S-Light aroma of wet earth, fresh ground nuts, a touch of apple/pear and a touch of spice. Nothing crazy here, but then again I wasn't expecting it to be.
T-More complex flavour profile with lightly sweet caramel malt melding nicely with spiced fruit, earthy bitterness and a pronounced nuttiness all overlaid with a light smokiness. While this is complex it is all soft and subtle making one search for the flavours while enjoying it along the way.
M-Medium-light to medium bodied fairly sharp and crisp with a lingering spicy bite and a drying finish.
D-Well done, a solidly made beer. A subtle and fully enjoyable with plenty of flavour to keep things interesting throughout. I could certainly see myself enjoying multiples of this one.
