Holy Follicles, Batman! It was noticed that I Wanted this for The CANQuest (TM) and so one was sent to me. I had it in abeyance for no particular reason other that I was awaiting pic approval for other Browns and wanted to drink them together.

From the CAN: "We hooked up with the Holy City Beard and Moustache Society for this beer. Chucktown Follicle Brown was named by said society, and was made to commemorate their hosting of the Southeastern Beard and Moustache Championships."; "This hairy beast is a brown ale hopped with a heavy dose of Nugget and Amarillo hops. A smooth mouthfeel is followed by a bitter bite, both riding under a citrus aroma that is sure to smell great through your lip hair."; "'No hair was used, or abused, in the making of this beer.'"

The Crack! let loose with a loud Phffft! as though it were under heavy pressure. I initiated an inverted Glug, but it quickly foamed up and I had to back off. The overflow did not come from the glass, but instead, from within the CAN! Yes, it was actually foaming up and out of the CAN and I had nowhere to put it as the foam of the initial pour was slow to settle. Settle it did, into two fingers of dense, deep-tan head that simply hung around obstinately. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with a slight cloudiness and cola highlights at the edges. Nose smelled of roasty malts, coffee-like, with an accompanying lemony citrusiness. Interesting and since I am not a style maven and I am a self-avowed hophead, this was right up my alley. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, almost (but not quite) creamy. The taste was quite bitter, what with the hops and the dark malts having a chance to interact. This was definitely not a sweet Brown ale and I was glad of it. The finish was dry, thanks to all of the bitter flavors inherent in it it, but not to the point of being gasping.

12 oz can from sixer at fmcds poured into a standard pint glass. Unable to determine canning date.

A - Black with brown and red highlights. One finger head that hangs arround for a while. Good lace retention.

S - Amarillo hops/citrus at the forfront, with some toasted grains and malts in the background.

T - Taste follows the aroma. You pick up some more "smoke" and chocolate notes than in the nose. Burnt grains, but they are mild and take a back seat to the citrus hops.

M -Trends towards the thin side, medium light carbonation.

O - Great aroma, and moderately tasty, would have liked to get more of the traditional brown ale flavors out of this, but it is worthy of sampling.
