Jacks is a great local beer store. First of all, Jack himself is usually there and offers an enthusiastic plethora of information upon inquiry. He is always super friendly and helpful. He keeps his beer fridges stocked with crafts, locals, Belgians and Germans. Victory, Sam Adams, Dogfishhead, Flying Fish, Schneider, Chimay, Riverhorse, Flying Dog to name a few. The first fridge is packed with bomber bottles and almost all are under 10 bucks. Anything from a local IPA to a reserve Belgian. This place has been revamped within the last few years and its much more attractive and well kept. Check this place out, its always worth it.

Okay, I went over to Jack's Wine Sense with pretty low expectations.

What I found, however, was exciting, while simultaneously kind of saddening. The store has some really hard to get stuff. They had 4-packs of Goose Island BCBS, when almost every other store in the area is sold out. They had bottles of FW Parabola, Sucaba, and XV just sitting there. On and on...

The disappointment came into play when I looked in the cooler. Bottles upon bottles of Ballast Point Sculpin...all several months past their expiration dates. This was true of a lot of their more time-sensitive stock. It is clear that people just don't know about the place, because the prices were reasonable enough, so there is no other reason these bottles shouldn't be moving.

There was a youngish woman behind the register, and I didn't see any other staff on the early Sunday afternoon that I went over.

I'd definitely go back, if for no other reason that the chance to find something interesting and hard to get. They seem to be trying to cater to the craft beer crowd, but they need to do a better job of getting the word out.
