Good beer. Had from the brewery. Pint glass. A little thicker than it had to be but drinkable.

Served in a Devil's Backbone willibecher.

A pale ale named for the place where Union commanders headquartered themselves during the battles of Chancellorsville and (unsurprising here) Fredericksburg. Gotta love beer and brewers, right? Anyway, this stuff pours a clear brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild pine sap, grapefruit zest, a twinge of orange zest, and a solid backbone of light toffee. The taste brings in more of the same, with a nice balance existing between the hops and the toffee, though the hops are what linger in the end. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a nice little pale ale, nothing special, but a balanced entry in the style's catalog.

First had: on tap at B&G

Nice standard APA. Clearish amber pour with a small white head that receded to a ringlet and left spotty lacing on the glass. Nice aroma of pine and citrus hops, sweet bready malts in the background. More of the same in the taste, citrusy hops, pine, a decent drying bitterness, balanced with a sweet malty base. No surprises here. Light-medium body, easily drinkable. Good for the style, even if it's been done thousands of times before.
