Got from a beer trade with someone who had a Crooked Stave membership. Purple wax on the bottle. Poured into a snifter, paired with a small piece of chocolate cake.

A&S: Initially, very fruity almost like a sparkling red wine accompanied with some mild berry tartness. Not really much sour aromas present. Ivory colored fizzy head appears then dies really quickly to a thin ring which leaves specks of lacing. Lively, transparent purple sangria (very pretty) colored beer, with tiny bits of berry floating around.

T&M: Not nearly as funky and sour as I expected. You for sure get lots of berry tones, but to be honest not much else. As you pour the bottom in the beer, the flavor doesn't change as dramatically (and not in the way it does) as I expect it to. Surprisingly, it become sweeter but also a bit more tart then originally. Powerfully candy-like tartness in the finish (and more so at the end). Dry and crisp in the finish with almost a chalky texture in the way back. Prickly carbonation with a light body.

Overall: It was good, glad I tried it. Pleasant and well made, but nothing mind-blowing. It's not exactly what I would normally seek out. Would consider buying again depending on price, but considering the membership cost averages $15 a bottle I'll pass on this beer.

Pours a nice reddish/purple color with quickly disappearing head. Nice clarity and color. The aroma is brett forward with moderate level of funk, hints of acidity, and some notes of blackberry providing some lingering acid. The blackberry seems to be a little bit in the background. The taste is moderately tart up front with nice fruity blackberry notes and is quickly taken over by brett funk and notes of sourdough and lemon. Mouthfeel is light and low carbonation for style. Overall, this beer is not bad but not really that exciting either. The blackberries don't shine like I was hoping for. The brett overtakes this beer and takes away from a nice balance.

Apparently I am too much of a CS homer, as I am failing to understand why this doesn't have higher reviews. Had this with DB Huna, Fou Foune, BB Cherry Origins and this was the highlight of the night for me.

A- Blabaer colored hue, perhaps a little lighter. Minimal head and lacing.

S- Blackberry funk, not an overpowering S on this sour.

T- Absolutely amazing! The blackberry comes through with the golden sour. Glorious!

M- Very light, almost like drinking water.

O- The best CS sour that I have had to date. Thanks Jer!

Pour is dark pink with a bit of a haze to it and a light pink head. Nose has a lambic note to it, a bit of barnyard funk, slight metallic twang, strong raspberry fruit behind. Taste isn't quite as barnyard or as bright. Strong brett presence that gets a little muddled and brett is strong. Still a hint of barnyard, some dusty brett with a moderate amount of blackberry. Lighter body, fairly sour with a slightly puckering finish.

Straight purple drank in color. The nose is blackberry and mangy fox. Tastes like 10 lbs of blackberries crushed into the glass with an astringent finish and heavy Brett funk. Not the most complex sour, but it's deliciously refreshing. Perfect for a summer pour.

thanks to ablackshear for this Crooked Stave beer!

375ml bottle with purple waxed pressure cap.

bottled on september 2013.

poured into a Crooked Stave tulip glass.

Appearance: medium red bodied beer with almost 2 fingers of bone white head. Quickly drops down to a small cap.

Smell: Hint of blackberries. Slightly lactic and oaky.

Taste: Juicy and lightly tart blackberries. Hints of greek yogurt or a cheesy funk. I taste some sweettart brand candies in this beer. You can really taste the base beer (L'brett D'Or) in this beer, but its mellowed out slightly by the presence of the blackberries. This beer strikes a really good balance between the L'Brett D'Or and the blackberries.

Mouthfeel: low end of a medium bodied beer. lower carbonation levels almost moderate carboantion. This beer has a semi-dry finish.

Overall: I think that this is just about as good as L'Brett D'Or. I always enjoy my fruit wild ales more than just a standard golden sour, but these two seem to be near equals.

A - Dark red like the color of Cabernet with carbonation trailing upwards. Small white head sitting on the sides and a moat of foam in the middle 4

S - Juicy blackberry, balsamic vinegar, sweet tarts, and light funk in the back

T - Up front there is a big whiff of funk that gives it an earthy, blue cheese. There is much more than you'd expect from the nose. After that, you get tartness that is balsamic vinegar and sweettarts, and tart blackberries. The finish has some lingering funk and light musty oak

M - Lighter body with good carbonation. Leaves a slight tingle on the tongue from the carbonation as well as a dry presence

O - A good funky sour from CS. The blackberry is there but doesn't make itself known. The tartness balanced well with the funk but the beer is a bit muted overall. This is one where is be curious to see how it aged as I think it'd be great if it had a bit more tartness to it
