Got from a beer trade with someone who had a Crooked Stave membership. Purple wax on the bottle. Poured into a snifter, paired with a small piece of chocolate cake.

A&S: Initially, very fruity almost like a sparkling red wine accompanied with some mild berry tartness. Not really much sour aromas present. Ivory colored fizzy head appears then dies really quickly to a thin ring which leaves specks of lacing. Lively, transparent purple sangria (very pretty) colored beer, with tiny bits of berry floating around.

T&M: Not nearly as funky and sour as I expected. You for sure get lots of berry tones, but to be honest not much else. As you pour the bottom in the beer, the flavor doesn't change as dramatically (and not in the way it does) as I expect it to. Surprisingly, it become sweeter but also a bit more tart then originally. Powerfully candy-like tartness in the finish (and more so at the end). Dry and crisp in the finish with almost a chalky texture in the way back. Prickly carbonation with a light body.

Overall: It was good, glad I tried it. Pleasant and well made, but nothing mind-blowing. It's not exactly what I would normally seek out. Would consider buying again depending on price, but considering the membership cost averages $15 a bottle I'll pass on this beer.

A - Dark red like the color of Cabernet with carbonation trailing upwards. Small white head sitting on the sides and a moat of foam in the middle 4

S - Juicy blackberry, balsamic vinegar, sweet tarts, and light funk in the back

T - Up front there is a big whiff of funk that gives it an earthy, blue cheese. There is much more than you'd expect from the nose. After that, you get tartness that is balsamic vinegar and sweettarts, and tart blackberries. The finish has some lingering funk and light musty oak

M - Lighter body with good carbonation. Leaves a slight tingle on the tongue from the carbonation as well as a dry presence

O - A good funky sour from CS. The blackberry is there but doesn't make itself known. The tartness balanced well with the funk but the beer is a bit muted overall. This is one where is be curious to see how it aged as I think it'd be great if it had a bit more tartness to it

Appearance - light purple with a thin pink lacing. decent amount of lacing after aging a year

Smell - huge tart flavor right out of the gates followed by a berry smell

Taste - lots of tartness right away like the smell, followed by the sweet berry flavor you smell. Acidity finish to this one.

Mouthfeel - pucker up for this one, but the fruity finish is quite enjoyable

Overall - this one aged nicely. Crooked Stave has put out many fine beers and this is another example.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep reddish purple body. Small head when I pour it, but it settles to nothing.

Smell - Lots of blackberry. Oak. Kinda yogurty.

Taste - Dry, tart blackberry, but it dies off before tasting jammy. That yogurt tartness comes back. Oaky in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium light body. Nicely tart, but not quite sour. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - Simple, but nice.

So much Blackberries. I would recommend this over most of the crooked staves I've had.
