Huge thanks to homebrew311, I owe ya one buddy!

375ml into a short wine glass

A- pours a murky yellow, reminiscent of beat, you can tell this is gonna be good!

S- fruity funk right up front, I'm loving it! Dry hopping comes through more than I expected and works quite well! As it worms it's hop character grows

T- much like the nose, hopes come through but not like the nose creating a unique and pleasant combo, was not expecting this combo to work so well. Funk and sour are at perfect levels. Fantastic!

M- good carbonation, to a medium bodied ale

O- fantastic! Was not expecting a dry hopped sour to taste this good. If this was in sixers it'd be my go to lol. Best from CS I've had to date.

Alan thanks for the gem!!

Bottle pour at the post-FWIBF bottle share held at the Adelaide Inn in Paso Robles, CA.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one.

Pours a murky yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, grain, tropical fruit, and Brett aromas. Taste is much the same with sour grain, tropical fruit, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice combination of tropical fruit and Brett characteristics.

Bottle shared with tjmodica.

A: Pours a hazed golden/orange color. A bubbly one finger white head forms, and recedes in a second. Light lace is left behind.
S: Some basement like funk up front. Fruity esters come next, then more fruity hoppy aromas. The full spectrum, from orange peal, lemon zest, to grapefruit and even some passion fruits. Really nice.
T: Like the nose, a beautiful basement/cellar like funk that is very earthy. Very light oak flavors. Fruity esters and hops come next. Orange rind, lemon zest, and a grapefruit punch.
M/D: A light to medium body. Perfectly carbonated. So crisp, dry and effervescent. Though incredibly smooth at the same time. Very easy to drink. I would love to keep coming back to this again and again.

The Brett and hops work perfectly here. Not to mention the wonderfully dry and crisp body. All around excellent.

2014 Vintage
Poured into a stemmed Teku glass

Appearance: (4.5)
Pours a beautiful, lightly hazy gold with a crisp and tiny bubbled, finger tall pure white head. The head quickly recedes to a mere puck, leaving some light lacing along the glass's edges. Pretty looking sour for sure.

Aroma: (4.75)
Wow, as soon as the beer is poured, you're absolutely blasted by intensely tropical hop aromatics; peach, lemon, papaya, guava, pear and ruby red grapefruit. This smells like an absolute hop monster. There is a perceived lactic tartness that really melds well with the strong grapefruit impression, supplied by the heavy dry hopping of this sour. As the beer warms, some very nice light stonefruit brettanomyces funk begins to poke through the hops, really adding some wonderful complexity; dried apricot, wet hay, lightly musty leather. The brett is very matured, add really avoids being medicinal, or band-aidy in aroma. A light bready malt backbone is barely noticeable

Taste: (4.75)
Just as in the aroma, as soon as the beer touches your palate, you're treated by a wave of tropical, fruity hops; juicy peach, ripe papaya, intense guava, grapefruit and light pine. Adding to the overall fresh, thirst quenching quality of the beer, is a clean and very refreshing blast lightly lemon-y lactic acidity. Just before the tartness becomes abrasive, it is cut by a welcomed slightly biscuit like malt backbone. As this maltiness coats your tongue, complex brettanomyces funk greets you; mostly more of the dried apricot and musty hay that was apparent in the nose. The beer finishes dry and lightly tart with long lingering notes of juicy guava, apricot, lemon juice and peel, more dried apricot, slightly musty barnyard funk and a lightly chewy maltiness. A gentle oaky vanilla character is noticeable as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel: (5)
Medium bodied, with moderate carbonation. Refreshing.

Overall: (4.75)
Crooked Stave really blew me away with this beer. I've never experienced a beer quite like this before; It simultaneously seems like both a very hoppy pale ale and a funk heavy sour. The antioxidative charateristics of the brett yeast really encapsulate the hop aromatics and help lock them in throughout the flavor profile without showing any real signs of oxidation or age. If you happen upon this beer, definitely scoop it up posthaste. Highly, highly recommended for both lovers of funky beers and hoppy beers!
