375 mL bottle into a tulip

Dark brown ale, small wispy head quickly dissipates quickly. Citrusy-sweet nose, phenolic and vinegary. Raisin, lemon on the palate, with leathery funk carrying to a short, bittersweet finish.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a dark brown to almost black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that immediately dissipated. There wasn’t any lacing. The smell started off with a bitter to tart to sour citrus. Peel to pulp-like goodness slides in nicely. Slight roasty coffee tries to show its face, but really stays subtle. The taste rails the bitter/tart/sour citrus and really wants to bring in the roastiness of the coffee, but, ya know, it stays really subtle. There is a mostly sour citrus rind-like aftertaste running into a subtle sticky sour finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation is quite low key on this one, playing up the sour citrus to be the hammer on the palate, is it? Eh, somewhat. Overall, good for what it is, I’d most likely have again.

Served from a bottle into a tasting glass. 3 years old (2014 Vintage). Flanders red but flatter (likely due to the age on the bottle?). Touch of balsalmic vinegar. Sour cherry. Hints of dry red wine. Good, but not as complex as some of their other beers, and the mouthfeel leaves a little to be desired.

375ml capped bottle served in a pair of small Cantillon glasses. 2014 batch 6.

Pours dark, reddish brown, very little head, not much carbonation. Smell is tart, spicy, funky.

Taste is tart, a little dark fruit skin bitterness, a little funk (but not much). Maybe some berry sweetness. The label says citrus, but I don't really get any.

Mouthfeel is thin, a little dry, light. Overall, it's good.

Pours a clear, dark brown color. 1/5 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of bacterial funk, hint of alcohol, sweet malt, hint of caramel malt, and a hint of hop. Fits the style of an American Wild Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable tartness. Tastes of bacterial funk, hint of alcohol, sweet malt, hint of caramel malt, citrus (cherry?), and a hint of hop. Overall, weak appearance, but good aroma, body, blend, and complexity.
