750ml bottle, batch 1-11/11, bottle 275/838. Pours a hazy dark gold with a huge creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bretty, slightly soured hops...pretty sweet. There's some sweet fruit and floral notes as well.

The flavor is bready malts and a little yeasty banana with some fruit and brett and a good dose of floral hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, a very interesting beer. One of the better hoppy Belgian ales I've had. I normally don't care for the mix of Belgian yeast and hops, but this has a nice twang to it (from Brett?).

Thanks, quirkzoo!

Slightly hazed, burnt, golden yellow with a hugely foaming off-white head that lasts and lasts. It eventually leaves thick chunks of lace down the glass. I love beers that look like this.

As has been my experience with other Crooked Stave beers, the yeast is the star of the show in this one. It's very funky and earthy at the same time. The fresh hops provide floral and lemon citrus aromas. Big, expressive, though balanced. I'm a big fan.

The flavor is similarly good as the aroma. The Belgian/Brett yeast is the star of the show, though the fresh hops battle for dominance. This is fairly bitter for the style, though it finishes dry and drinks remarkably easy.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. Very nice, though for whatever reason, the actual Belgians still dominate the mouthfeel department.

Wonderful. Please send me more!

Pours a very hazy golden color with infinite amount of head. The head literally just continues to grow, seemingly out of nowhere for a couple of minutes. The smell reminds me of orval, lots of brett funk up front with some hoppy bitterness behind it. As I continue to smell it, I get more and more tropical fruits, some pineapple left to rot in some wet hay in the back of a horse stable. Really well balanced on the nose. The taste is more of the same, with just a touch of malt sweetness and a medium bitterness. Really complex brew. The mouthfeel definitely light which I have come to expect from brett beers. Overall a really solid brew, especially if you like the funk. This is the second bottle I have had and I might pick up one more while they last.

Poured from a 750ml into a Duvel tulip

A: Pours a very frothy head of about 4 fingers and is maintaining quite the head due to the etching on the bottom of my tulip. Really bubbling away
Color is a bright gold and a very white head with larger bubbles

S: Fruity and earthy. Smelling some nice hops and spices also...really great bouquet.

T: Wow what a great tasting beer. All sorts of fruits are coming out: banana, orange, grape maybe even some guava, they seem to all be there. Some nice earthiness and a slight hop bite with a great malt sweetness are also hiding in here. A wonderful tasting brew in all ways

M: Very bubbly as the pour would suggest. Very tingly but still smooth

O: I shied away from trying this too long. What a wonderful wonderful beer from Chad. Hoping I can grab a few more of these and drink them while they are still fresh.

Thanks to drabmuh for sharing this bottle. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.

Bottle 227/838

Pours a clear, sparkling yellow color with a very large, creamy white head that lasts around for quite some time before eventually falling to a cap, leaving a sheet of lacing on the glass.

The nose carries some mild funk and pineapple character. Light lemon and citrus in the background. Good Brett throughout. Flavor has a light funk and bitterness.

Body is light with moderately-high carbonation and a very dry finish. Nice and funky. Really great finish.

Another solid hit from Crooked Stave. Would love to try this one again.

Poured in to a tulip. Normal/tad-heavy pour turned in to the beer gushing out the glass. 5 finger head with a clear, golden colored body. LOTS of bubbles generated from the bottom of the glass.

Smell was slightly malty with some spicey and floral notes. Smells light and drinkable.

Taste had a mild maltiness but a nice fruity flavor and finish. A bit grassy and spicey but a really nice orange flavor came forward in the finish. Light sweetness. No signs of ABV.

Mouthfeel was medium/light body with very high carb. Crisp finish.

Overall it was a good beer. Hop profile was delicate but present. Nice light sweetness and no signs of ABV. Main problem for me was the amount of carbonation made it hard to drink from the glass.

The pour is a hazy golden color with a tall white head. The nose on this beer is phenomenal. Earthy tones, bready malt, biscuit, and intense pineapple aroma. A touch of citrus and straw, but just so much pineapple. The flavor has a nice crisp malt profile, minimal bitterness, citrus peel, and an overwhelming pineapple flavor that is just amazing. A touch of yeast, maybe some earth on the palate as well, but just overall a solid beer.

Pours a cloudy orange with a huge, fluffy white head that lingers and laces.

Smells of oak, hints of bretty funk, pear, some herbal notes. Not particularly hoppy.

Taste is fruity and funky up front that goes into a more bitter brett character and ends on a bitter, slightly astringent note with woody and slightly light-fruit flavors. Apple and pear fruit character and phenolic, spicy (black pepper) Belgian yeast along with bitterness dominate.

High carbonation and medium to light body work well enough. Maybe a bit too carbonated for the bitterness.

This is an interesting Belgian style beer that is a bit too phenolic/woody for the hop and yeast character to really shine, but still worth trying and refreshing in the end.

**Taste gets far more interesting and enjoyable as it warms.

Batch 1-11/11 Bottle 292/838

Highly carbonated...maybe a tad too much. Pours a cloudy orange with a fluffy white head. Head dissapted to leave a lot of lacing.

Smells very Belgian...almost like brett, its a little funky in the nose.

Tastes is good, definately a Belgian yeast. I don't pick up too much on the 'fresh hop' aspect. It tastes like a 'regular' Belgian pale. It is good, but I'm just not feeling that it is fresh hopped that much. Maybe it is because the Belgian yeast flavor is very dominate?

It feels good on the mouth. Its not too heavy, nor too light. Crisp and refreshing.

Overall, this is a very good beer. It is the first non sour I've had from Crooked Stave. I don't know that I'll go out of my to find this again, but it is definately enjoyable.

Shared a 1 PINT 9.4 FL OZ. (750 ML) bottle of this w/ ChrisF. Poured from the Brown Labeled bottle w/ Green bubbled writing & "Fresh Hopped Golden Ale" below Fertile Soil into a Non-Stemmed Wine Glass. Has Batch 1-1/11 & Bottle 622/838 on the side of the bottle.

Aroma- Very light, earthy, and fruity from the beginning. There seems to be a good amount of spice added as well. While going in for many smells, tree limbs came out at the end? VERY different!

Appearance- Poured a whopping 6 Finger head! Lasts for what seemed like forever. Very frothy. Has a light copper body that was clear. Left the thickest lacing behind. Carbonated much?

Flavor- Had a nice smooth, pilsner like taste with tons of sweetness afterwards. A soft, yeasty character came out also with BLONDE ALE shouting at me in the background. Light spices and light hops in the finish.

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Creamy, and then a sour note on the palate?!?! Whats happening here!

Overall Impression- Enjoyed this brew without question but was guessing what style the whole time? I would LOVE to get some more beer from this brewery soon! While they were @ the Big Beers Festival this month, I wonder when they will be breaking into the market? I suggest this beer for those who love to ponder and enjoy complexed and interesting brews! Cheers Crooked Stave and keep up the good work.

Described on the label as a fresh hopped golden ale, it doesn't lie.

Made with all Colorado ingredients. Pours a light golden, a touch of cloud. Fluffy white head settles to more than a collar and the lacing is quite nice.

Fresh hop aroma. Floral, light citrus. Under current of bread and grass.

With a quick bready malt incursion up front, the hops come on quick. Very faint mint. Orange and persimmon zest. Light hints of banana. While the hops make their presence known they do not dominate. They refresh the beer, and with a nice touch of carbonation the beer is quite easy to drink.

very nice

750ml into a couple of tulips. The brew appears a hazed golden color with 4+ fingers worth of bubbly white head. Thick patches of lace stick to the glass. Rising bubbles of carbonation maintain the cap.

The smell is fresh and grassy with fruity and floral hop quality that turns to lots of bretty character. Wet leather and earthy tones overtake the hop quality as it gets warmer.

The taste is herbal like garden herbs/veggies. Dank and weedy with leathery brett flavors and cardboard. Somewhat tart and fruity with a wild alcohol inclusion. A strange spicy aftertaste lingers in the mouth that clashes with the rest of what is going on in this brew.

This is a medium bodied offering with a modest level of carbonation. The alcohol inclusion gets progressively more bold and aggressive as the experience continues. Its overall an "OK" brew that I just dont get/understand. It is palateable when cold but as it comes up to temp, it becomes a chore to drink.
