All wild yeast with the powdery charm, earthen character and premiere tartness that only brettanomyces has to offer gives the Wild Wild Brett series a unique almost-sour taste but with a surprise or two lurking around every corner.

"Blue" celebrates the dark side of wile ale and with the decoration of blue spruce that chases the aromas and taste early and often. Its hazy, russet brown hues harbor the toasty, piney and sour fruit scents that play out like dry citrus, leather and dehydrated pineapple. With an earthen waft of saddle leather and fresh soil, the scent carries a mustier perfume than is shown in taste. The flavor of toasted malt is lightly of coffee and cocoa with a woodsy teal-like character to start.

What little malt sweetness started the show has easily dissolved by mid-palate. Its sourish tendencies take hold with the singed citrus peels of lemon, lime, grapefruit, all seeming burnt around their edges. The sticky resins of spruce give an evergreen flavor with a peppery bite that's remiss of old sawdust.

Medium-light in body, the ale offers a pleasant tartness with a refreshing citrus acidity. A late waft of burlap, curing leather and toast billow through the retro-olfactory sense as its aftertaste is oaky, leathery and tannic.

Pour is dark brown with a lot of fluffy bubbly tan head. Nose is light with a some dark malts up front, roast and hint of chocolate, a fair amount of citrusy hops and light pine come in behind with a faint note leathery brett. Taste is different, malts are up front with a light roast and tobacco, strong leathery Brett with a piney resinous hop and thick syrupy body. Carbonation is a hint low and the finish has some juicy citrus with a slick feel down the throat. More like a black ipa.
