Bottle 1443/1516

A - Pours a reddish-amber with a fluffy large cream-colored head that fades slowly.

S - Funk, brett, stinky cheese, fruity sweetness.

T - Blueberry, then oak, finishes with a touch of cheese.

D - Good carbonation with a light body.

O - Very tasty and nice, the previous bottle was much more dominated by the stinky cheese than this bottle. One of my favorites of the series.

Thanks to daniloknezic for sending this beer my way! Thanks Don!

Batch 7/12

Bottle # 517 of 1516.

Nice big hiss when the bottle is opened up; poured into a cascade tulip glass.

Appearance: a clear pinkish red bodied beer with 2 fingers of an eppervescent white head. Head drops down to a small cap and eventually a thin ring. Spotty lacing.

Smell: fresh tart blueberries. The blueberries smell so big and they are easily detected when I cracked the cap off the bottle of beer. A touch of vinegar and a lite funk note. Sweet and juicy watermelon note and maybe even a tropical fruit note. This nose smells so darn good!

Taste: starts off with a hint of sweet and tart blueberries. The funk is pretty big in this beer compared to the blueberries. Its funkiness is earthy and musty. Wet straw notes as well. Little bit of oak and yeast note mix it up a little bit. The beer finishes with a little bit more blueberry that adds a hint of sweetness in the finish. Not much acidity is found in this sour, really enjoyable drink! Wow.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Crisp and refreshing beer. It is a really creamy and smooth beer especially where the carbonation level is in this beer. I would guess the beers ABV to be around 4%. It is a really really drinkable beer! Wow!

Overall: I really liked this Crooked Stave beer alot. I like this much better than CS Blackberry Petite Sour. Its got just enough blueberry and a lot of funk, which you really would not think based on the nose of this beer. It still remains very well balanced. It was not as tart as I expected, but the beer did not need to be very tart. Its almost like a fruity saison. I normally enjoy the fruit forward sours better than a funky sour, but this has the best balance of both elements. The drinkability is off the charts! I need to get some more Crooked Stave Wild Wild Brett series beers to sample!

Served in Crooked Stave stemware. Pours a nice light pinkish color with a nice head and a bit of lacing. The nose is really excellent with notes of blueberry and earth. Funk in the background. Really excellent. Flavor doesn’t disappoint either. Really enjoyed the combination of the Brett and blueberry character with just a bit of backing acidity. Light body; extremely drinkable.

[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

The pour was a hazy dark burnt orange with an average (1-2 finger) off white fizzy head that dissipated quickly, down to a scattered layer of residue with a very small collar which produced not so good runny lacing.

The aroma had a bold tartness right up front with a grain malt and a musty Brett yeast along with notes of blueberry, cherries, yogurt and a bit of oak cask.

The taste was sweetly tart and rather fruity throughout, progressing with a bold sourness, a hint of oak cask and a somewhat light berry presence at the end. The flavor was gone way to fast after the swallow for such a tasty brew, basically fading very quickly from the taste buds leaving almost nothing behind.

Mouthfeel was just past light in body and dry in texture with a strong ticklish carbonation.

Overall this was a fantastic tasting brew with a very smooth and easy drinkability, what can I say this brewer did it again...

750mL bottle poured into a tulip. Thanks Matt for sharing! Batch 7/12 Bottle #957/1516

(A)- A brilliant ruby red grapefruit-like color to it. Some good white froth formed.

(S)- A fairly dry, but acidic oak with subtle funky strawberry/blueberry fruits.

(T)- A nice dry tartness that flows into a really nice, almost creamy vanilla oakiness. Very dry finish with subtle blueberry fruit.

(M)- A really nice crisp carbonation level. So smooth and creamy with that little bit of vanilla with the oak and fruit combo. Not a ton of Brett, but this sure is velvet-like.

(O)- A really intriguing and engaging beer. Would be extremely curious what some time would do to this if the Brett would integrate more into the main profile of the beer or not. Whatever the case, the way this beer is now is at a really interesting stage where the oak profile is almost creamy with the vanilla and blueberry fruits is really enjoyable.
