Aged in a Leopold Bros Small Batch Whiskey Barrel
Appearance: Arrives with an auburn colored liquid capped by a modest head that leaves some splashy lace behind
Smell: Dark fruit (prune) with lacto sour elements and mild whiskey tones
Taste: The lacto sourness arrives immediately complementing the prune and other dark fruit flavors that build underneath; after the swallow, there is a hint of milk coffee and almond, though the finish is rather acetic
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; moderate puckering
Overall: Really excited by the flavors in this sour - what inspiration to sour a quad!

Pours like an over-steeped cold black tea... swampy brown body with little to no head, thick boozy legs ta boot.
Mushy cherries, dates, caramel/toffee, hot wood bits, more dark fruits, nothing obviously 'wild' about this judging by the nose alone. Some faint leather, bourbon, slightly tart yeast notes far and away.
Ooh, yep... there's the sour. Such a unique tasting beer. Sort of reminiscent of a sour brown? Overripe cherries, sweet tobacco, figs, the bourbon and the tartness have such a strange and tasty relationship, some sweet fruit, no real discernible alcohol presence - such a massive and complex drink. Incredible.
Feel is just as thin as it looks but I actually quite enjoy it - it allows for an uninhibited experience of the vast and complex flavors.
Wow. Many thanks to quirkzoo for this beer. Fantastic.

Poured into a tulip
A: Pours a dark orange-brown, murky, with a VERY slight head that vanishes instantly... looks like a beer you left out over night.
S: Initial smell is all funk. But once you let it breath for a minute, the true aroma comes out, and its very nice. Your typical quad, dark fruits, which lead into the bourbon, leather and wood. Finishes with sweet cherry/vanilla. Extremely pleasant aroma.
T: Yes, its sour. A very well played sour. Enough to let you know its there with out going over board and taking over. Next, the flavors work in the oposite direction as the nose would have you to think. Starts sweet, then finishes with the oak/bourbon. Very layered. Very complex. And flat out delicious. Easily one of the best tasting beers I've ever had.
M: One word...FLAT. Great body, and very smooth but I'm drinking beer here, not bourbon. I need some carbonation.
O: I don't post reviews (this is only my second), but I just had to review this one since there isn't that many of them. Like I stated above...easily one of the most complex and best tasting beers I've had to date. A fantastic brew, but the lack of carbonation is keeping it from being a world-class brew. With that said, if you are a sour fan I highly suggest you seek this one out.
