Been holding this for the last year. It poured with no head at all. It is very deep red/ brown in color. There is no carbonation at all, very flat. With the sourness and the heat from the bourbon barrels it reminds me of a boozy Flemish Red. I think they tried to do too much with what could have been a great beer. A wild quad or BBA quad would have been fine, but all 3 and it takes away from the product. Nice to try but don't need another.

Review entered from notes. Draft at the old taproom into a snifter. The beer is a reddish brown in color with just a light wisp of head and a thin ring. The malty quad side of the equation provides some dark fruits - raisin, prune, apple - mingled with a sharply acidic sour side. Nice musty, funky aroma becoming more sour and vinegar on the palate. Unexpected touches of toasted coffee and cocoa here and there. The bourbon barrel presence comes through modestly. Moderate in body with a low to moderate carbonation. I enjoyed this one, but there’s lots of competing character and it’s a little brash at times.

Thanks to BA ShitBirdKing247 for opening this alongside the cognac version. The brew pours a clear mahogany color with a tiny ring of bubbles around the edge that is the only thing reminescent of a head. Some ruby hints are seen through the body with orange on edges when held to the light.

The aroma is a strange yet inviting compilation of unexpected character: coffee and toasty almost caramel and toffee are the first suggestions before oak. Then the funky comes into play which is a strange after-smell that doesnt seem to be fitting.

The flavor is rather tangy and vinous with a mildly musty and oxidized sort of note before blending into vinegar. The barrel aged oaky quality really only becomes noticeable into the aftertaste.

This is a medium bodied brew with a low level of carbonation. It is strange but not that bad. There is something about high octane wild ales that just doesnt strike me the right way. Coupled that with the vinegar notes and well...i dont really have any interest in trying this again. I do appreciate the share though, thanks Josh.
