Reviewed as part of Blind BIF round 8

A: Pours a hazy light orange color, with little or no head at all. Just a thin white collar around the glass edge. Murky and cloudy in appearance.

S: Sour, tart funkiness. Dry and vinous, with a sharp bite. Lightly earthy and faint citrus notes. I'm thinking Crooked Stave based on my recent visit, the bottle style and smell.

T: Lemony tartness punches your mouth. Sour grapes, with a very subtle grassy funk. Something sweet lurking in there too.

M: Dry & crisp, with a light to medium body. Very little carbonation, making it oddly creamy and smooth.

O: This is among the most tart beers I've ever had. I love the dry sharpness, especially on a warm summer afternoon like today. Just enough funkiness to offset some of the puckering effect. Despite never trying it, my guess is CS Oculus.

Thanks to Paul for sharing!

A: Pours a hazy bright orange, with a foamy head on top that reduces to some random soapy bubbles on top. Nice lacing.

S: Lots of sour white grapes and white wine. I little bit of grass, oak, and a bit of must/funk.

T: Again, tons of white grapes and white wine, nice sour/tartness/ A bit of oak and vanilla, and a little bit of funk and zest near the finish.

M: Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, great sourness. Slightly dry finish.

O: A fantastic beer, need to try some more from Crooked Stave for sure.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy yellow. Small white head, fades quickly. Faint wisps on the surface.

Smell - Winey character. Strong acidity. Grainy and lemony.

Taste - Really intense sourness right up front. Dies down throughout the drink. Lemony with just a bit of funk before the sourness covers it up.

Mouthfeel - Pretty heavy bodied for a sour. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Intensely sour. Nice. Not usually the type of sour I enjoy, but it has enough going on to justify it's intensity.

Quick review from written notes, thanks Joe for sharing!

Murky sunkissed orange, champagne streamers rising, sheets of soft white foam lace in the glass, lasting head retention.

Fruity acidic aroma with some funky wild yeast, and a slight minerality.

Tart passion fruit, guava, Hawaiian punch, sweet tarts, dry finish. Light and effervescent feel, thirst quenching. Overall pretty nice, though the Brett d'Or was a shade better.

Pours cloudy straw/orange with a fizzy finger of white head. Good retention and soapy lacing down the glass.

Tartness on the aroma with a grape-y must and some vinegar tones. Lemons and apples as well.

Very funky flavors as well. Opens up with lightly tart grapes with a big funk component. A little vinegar and some more tart apple. Some lacto presence probably more than most CS, but still less sour than the typical American wild.

Pretty clean mouthfeel. Goes down pretty easy as it is sour, but not overly so. Finishes very dry with good carbonation levels.

I had a feeling I would like this one and I did. After annointing L'Brett D'Or as my favorite CS a few weeks ago, I now have a new frontrunner. Maintains the funk levels I've come to know the brewery for, but the extra oomph of added lacto sourness gives it great complexity and makes for a great beer.

Absolutely gorgeous... bright pear gold body cluttered with loads of tiny beading... a soapy finger of snow white head sinks down to a thick collar, leaving loads of lacing.

Sour grapes ta boot, beautifully sour white wine and vanilla oak, lemongrass, "barnyard funk."

A brilliant sour profile waits until the middle of palate to show itself, not much in the way of bold flavors up front, big tart grapes peak at the finish and dry up the mouth, I'm thirsty for more, mild pale fruit flavors linger... pineapple, orange zest, sour grapefruit... wonderful.

Another home-run from Crooked Stave.
