A: deep ruby brown, basically opaque, with a couple of fingers of tan head that slimmed quickly into a foamy collar

S: lots of tart notes, from lemon to cherry; dry oak, flowers, and bright herbs

T: tart dark fruit, full of sour citrus and accompanied by dry barrels of wood; sugars faint, of juice and jam; wine-like complexity and profile

M: mildly puckering and full of tingle, medium-to-light body, moderate carbonation, dry and sour finish

O: not surprising to say, this is an excellent dark sour, appropriately barrel-aged and of refined character. Recommended. (571 characters)

Nov 2014 batch 4, opened Dec 2014

A - Deep pomegranate body. Head settles into a fine white halo with nice retention and low lace.

S - Tingly sour nose. Grape skins, plums, Brazil nuts, and bright acidic sour lemons.

T - Much softer than the nose. Sour lemon, hazel nut, brown bread, and really nice earthy red beet note. Dry finish.

M - Smooth and medium-full for the style.

O - A nice variant on the style. (418 characters)

on tap at the source, no pun intended. a fun brew here, but I like its many variants better I think. reddish brown in color, patchy cream colored lace head. hazy. the nose is acidic and wild smelling, more like some of the Flemish reds than the bretty stuff from crooked stave, but absolutely wild fermented. dark fruits are present too, and a caramel sweet malt base. the flavor is not quite as sour as I remember, but is acidic and puckery for sure. the fruit and malt sweetness mellows it towards the finish. I get dried cranberries and dates here, as well as an oaky vibe. the feel is fuller bodied and its quite prickly in terms of carbonation. a little filling, a little unsettling in the belly, not one of their more sessionable brews. the mix of fruit and sour is unique though in this darker format. the bourbon barrel and cherry versions are exquisite. as a base beer its less memorable, but quite enjoyable nevertheless. (931 characters)

Felt compelled to review because this is the first sour I've ever enjoyed/finished. I think it's the oak that is very prominent in the nose and taste. Sourness comes through in the finish. (190 characters)

Small bottle capped and waxed

Thanks to Mitch from Colo. for sending this one along.

Allowed to wrm up for about 30 mins and poured into a tulip.

Pours a rich shade of darker brown, dark tan head on the looser side, stays around for a short spell. Leaves some slippery thicker webs of lacing.

Lactic sourness on the nose, with some cherry and red wine flourishes.

Moderate pucker, funk, more cherry, and light smoky red wine notes.

Nice sour/wild. Complex sipper. (470 characters)

Murky dark brown in color with not much light getting through. No head at all. I small tart horse blanket and a hint of oak. Taste is fairly bitter and acidic due to Brett. The oak notes are a slightly woody presence at the front of the palate. The mouth is fairly carbonated, dry, and crisp. (297 characters)

Batch #3. Dark fruit mahogany in color. Nice tart component but far from overbearing. A must try for dark saison\flanders\old bruin fans. Fantastic beer. Personally would just prefer more oak presence in a barrel aged offering. More oak in this would be lights out. (265 characters)
