Another one courtesy of my wonderful cellar reserve trustee DenverBeerDrinker...and again, aparently Crooked Stave now distributes to NY so these are all over the place right now...figured might as well see if I got too many, just enough, or if i need to get every bottle around! enjoyed from a crooked stave snifter
a - brew poured a murky honey yellow with a thin creamy foamy head that fizzed away fairly quickly leaving some sparse bubbles on the surface of the brew.
s - i could smell this one on the pour and from the mouth of the bottle (i always take a whiff right after opening a bottle) it was funky egg all the way. upon closer inspection, it really is beautiful. that signature brett and oak crooked stave thing, but with a decent glazing of hard boiled egg funk. really wonderful sour smell.
t - somewhat in line with the nose but the oak really grabs the spotlight in the flavor profile. big oak notes with some soft hints of eggy funk. don't get much saison...all sour on this one. this is way more of an "american wild" than a saison. really really enjoyable.
m - fairly thick without the prickle you'd expect from the flavor, but it makes it really rich and refreshing.
o - overall, glad that i have a bunch more of these coming, but this might be one to amass a ton of and drink constantly this summer. what a crisp refreshing beer. i can only imagine what time will do to this winner. drink em if you got em though since they are fantastic right now.

Extremely pale amber-tinted brew. Nice foam in the Gordon's thistle glass with a surplus of frothy carbonation.
Very light flavors and quite tart/sour. The malt has vanished and left a vinegary shadow. Lots of bitterish pepper that seems to increase with sipping. I wish there was a category for non-traditional sours, or else put this into the American Wild ale lineup. How do you compare this with such sensuous brews as Firestone Walker "Opal" and a hundred other fruity and zesty Saisons?
This is too much like a Belinerweiss to be reviewed adequately as a Saison. I also object to the price of this stuff. But if you're into trying sours, this is very approachable. From the 375 ml bottle purchased at Grapevine Liquors. Batch 10/2014.
