2013/3, Summer edition.

Poured into tulip at 45 degrees.

Very short white head over 100% cloudy body (w/the yeast) - bright gold. No lacing.

Tons of Brett in the aroma, with lots of orange citrus. Grassy, but sweet fruitiness dominates the aromas. Musty, too.

Flavors are packed with juicy blood orange, bitter peel, dry/old lime, some oak, and dirty dry finish. Mouthfeel is super dry

A fun, interesting, and flavor-packed Wit.

100% Brett Witbier. The summer edition has an addition of blood oranges. Tried at Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà in Rome. 375ml brown bottle.

Pours a clear golden colour without the yeast. With it (and I did add it after checking the clarity), it's a pale straw-yellow with a frothy fine head of white. This persists only as a sudsy ring and some messy lace. Body is light and limpid. Carbonation is fine but racing fast through the glass. Looks good.

Nose is Brett all the way. Barnyard, sharp and crisp with a hint of frenetic wildness—plenty of funk, no acidity. Some coriander and spice comes through a little, but the Brett is master of this beer, ruling powerfully: it kills almost everything else.

Taste is similar. Very Bretty right from the start, leaving the beer dry and sharp, but pretty intense. Apple cider dryness desiccates the mid-palate leaving some clinging iodine mineral characters on the back. It's clean in some strange way, despite all the earthiness, and it certainly has complexity to it.

Feel is pretty light. It's suitable.

It's pretty drinkable, even if there's not much to it beyond the Brett-bomb. I love the funkiness, but some additional spice or body or anything would add a little balance and counter-intuitively, make a more intense beer experience.

About time I finally reviewed a beer on here:

2013/ Batch 3

A: Slightly cloudy golden body topped with a fluffy white head that recedes quickly and leaves a moderate amount of lacing. Very effervescent.

S: Lemon and white wine in the aroma, with a hint of orange peel in the background as it warms. Minor Brett funk throughout.

T: Mostly follows the nose, lemon and funk up front with a dry/astringent white wine finish. Blood orange not as apparent as I would have liked, maybe a little too much age on the bottle?

M: Light, highly carbonated body with a bone dry finish. Astringent oak persists after each sip.

Wonderfully refreshing and tart. This was a fantastic beer to enjoy on this 80 degree SoCal day. Was hoping for more blood orange, but very enjoyable despite that fact. Crooked Stave continues to impress!

375ml bottle, year 2013 batch 3. Poured into a Hill Farmstead taster glass today, 2/26/2014.

App- Clear golden-straw yellow body, effervescent 2 finger head with good retention, good lacing, leaves a nice collar.

Smell- Crisp orange peel, tart lemon zest, ground pepper, crackers, a bit of white wine vinous quality. Slight rubbery funk as it warms.

Flavour- Vinous, peppery, crackers, lemon tartness, orange peel. Slight barnyard, very dry finish.

Mouthfeel- Proper body, medium or so, good carbonation, very dry, funky meets white wine finish and quite refreshing.

Overall- Damn if this is not your typical witbier. There is a lot of citrus undertones and a nice funk. It's probably not recognizable as a witbier since well, it's 100% brett, but it's quite interesting and enjoyable to drink.
