I loved my trip to Crooked Stave. I was only in Denver for a short time and it was close to unanimous from local BAs that Crooked Stave was the place to go if you could only go to one of the many great breweries in the Denver area. After trying their beers and thinking most of them were great, I was surprised at how slow it was in the tasting room on a Saturday night. From my tourist perspective, it did not seem like the brewery was in the best Denver neighborhood, but like a lot of small breweries it was located in an industrial park with plenty of parking, which is great for someone new to the area. The tasting room had a typical set up with a small L-shaped bar and about three or four tables. I would think it would get pretty crowded, when they get busy. Both of the guys working the bar when we were there were great! They were very friendly and when we told them we were from Austin, we started sharing stories about the Austin beer and live music scenes. My only complaint was they didn't offer more variety. They had six beers on tap and three beers for sale in bottles. I wished I could have tried more of their stuff, because everything I had was good to great. I highly recommend stopping in here for any BAs visiting the Denver area.

I love going down to The Source which is where this part of Crooked Staves Brewery resides. A fun and lively space that has a number of cool shops and restaurants complimenting the brewery. I love their beer and the experimental style they approach it with. I did want to inform beer enthusiasts that are visiting, Crooked Stave deals almost strictly in Saison/Farmhouse Ales. So if you're not down with the funk I'm sure there's some warm pilsner at a nearby liquor store you can drink in your hotel room.
But I suggest you sit down.

Located in The Source with a bunch if other establishments, it gives it a bit of a cool hole in the wall vibe in a midst of things going on. Plenty of seating and nice selection of their great beers on tap, 13 total today, with a cooler for to go bottle sales with another 15 varieties, albeit some are repeats from the tap selection. Decent prices and great atmosphere. Food available among the other market shops that can be brought in. A must stop for fans of brett when in Denver.

Located inside "The Source" which is an old brick warehouse that's been converted into a kind of hipster indoor mall. There are restaurants, bars, a bakery, deli, coffee shop, liquor store, and the Crooked Stave tap house. I liked the place, and thought it was a good use for the old building.

Quality is really good. I've had a dud or two in bottles from them in the past, but the two I tried on this visit were both excellent.

Service was fine, I don't remember anything bad, good, or memorable about it.

Selection was about 14 taps, it's all pretty much sours, but most people know that coming in. They also had lots of bottles.

Must stop in Denver if you are fan of the sour/Belgian style. Plus I thought the Source itself was a pretty cool place to check out too.

Come on Chad, why are your beers at this place so expensive? It's cheaper for me to go to any liquor store on the Front Range and buy it by the bottle. I mean $12 for a 10oz glass? That's ridiculous!

You're a great brewer and I love your stuff but I might as well just pull my pants down next time I go in. Two beers and a $30 bill after tip. WTF?

You're saving on bottling and distribution costs. Beers at the brewery should be cheaper than from a liquor store.

Lucky there's plenty of hipster yuppies in Denver that can afford to drop $100 a visit I guess.

This is in an old industrial building, turned into a mall. Lots of small shops and restaurants. The building is really cool, with thick brick walls and large steel beams in the ceiling. They specialize in sour style beer and they are very good. Service was a little slow but the staff was friendly. They only offer their own beer, so the selection is pretty narrow. If you like sour beer this is well worth the time to visit.

The Source itself is a pretty neat place with many stores and restaurants in a renovated industrial looking building. Crooked Stave is all the way in the back and contained a good flowing crowd even on a release day for Nightmare on Brett. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and very nice to drink in. The bar tenders were all very attentive and friendly and you can even order food from the restaurants at the Source and have them delivered to Crooked Stave. They had about 14 taps going all some sort of sour or saison. If you are looking for big stouts or IPAs you will be out of luck but what they have chose to focus on, they do it very well.
