I loved my trip to Crooked Stave. I was only in Denver for a short time and it was close to unanimous from local BAs that Crooked Stave was the place to go if you could only go to one of the many great breweries in the Denver area. After trying their beers and thinking most of them were great, I was surprised at how slow it was in the tasting room on a Saturday night. From my tourist perspective, it did not seem like the brewery was in the best Denver neighborhood, but like a lot of small breweries it was located in an industrial park with plenty of parking, which is great for someone new to the area. The tasting room had a typical set up with a small L-shaped bar and about three or four tables. I would think it would get pretty crowded, when they get busy. Both of the guys working the bar when we were there were great! They were very friendly and when we told them we were from Austin, we started sharing stories about the Austin beer and live music scenes. My only complaint was they didn't offer more variety. They had six beers on tap and three beers for sale in bottles. I wished I could have tried more of their stuff, because everything I had was good to great. I highly recommend stopping in here for any BAs visiting the Denver area.

Don't make the same mistake that I did on your Colorado beercation and go to Crooked Stave first...
(note: if you're entering Denver from the south on I-25 ignore your GPS directions to take Colorado Ave, unless you enjoy five miles of jammed surface street with dozens (it seemed) of stop lights)
Crooked Stave is a small taproom/brewery in the back of a smallish, urbanish, mall in an old foundry north of downtown. The space itself is the opposite of a cozy inviting pub where you'd want to spend the afternoon watching a football game. Rather the focus is completely on sampling Crooked Stave beer, and what beer it is. Not being at all familiar with the Crooked Stave lineup, we left it up to the bartender to make recommendations and we were pretty well blown away by the quality and diversity of what she gave us. In particular we loved the Batch 60, Nightmare on Brett, and Hop Savant. She was also very helpful providing recommendations of where else to go in Denver, Boulder, and Ft Collins which proved to be spot on as we continued on our three day oddysey - clearly she was not just an employee but as knowledgeable a beertender as I've ever encountered. Despite her helpful advice it was a mistake to go here first - everywhere else we went was a letdown in comparison...
