From: John's Grocery in Iowa City, IA
Date: "7112" stamped on bottle
Glass: Standard US pint glass

Pours a >2cm head of white foam that's composed of small bubbles and appears densely packed into a thick mass, quite frothy. Retention is about average, the head dissipating in a minute or two to a thick cap atop the body, but leaving a few substantial clumps of lacing. Body is a clear, pale, golden yellow color, with actively visible carbonation streaming from the bottom to the top, along the center and sides of the glass.

Aroma of noble hops, lemon citrus, lemongrass, flowering herbs, and a slight hint of ditchweed. The hops are, at this point, far surpassing any pilsner malt I can detect. Very fresh smelling, overall.

Taste is, Front of palate picks up noble hop bitterness and flavor, lemon citrus, and lemongrass. Mid-palate notes more pilsner malt and graininess (with associated sweetness) alongside lemon rind and lemongrass notes. Back of palate is where pilsner malt and graininess dominates over the hops, though these are still present. Aftertaste is of faint pilsner malt with stronger overtones of noble hops and lemon derivatives.

Body is medium-light to light in weight, with lively, yet not prickly carbonation. The resultant mouthfeel is crisp and fast-flowing. Finish is dry.

12oz : pilsner glass

Clear, golden yellow with a foamy white head.

Grassy, floral hops, well balanced with a crackery malt bonebone.

Medium+ body, foamy carbonation.

A very well done pilsner though I would love a chance to try a more fresh version of this.

Served in a pilsner glass at Estelle's in Boston.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a puffy layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice frothy lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Bready and sweet pilsner malts lager yeast, and grassy hops.

Taste: Chewy bready and slightly sweet pilsner malts, lager yeast, some bitterness, and grassy notes.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, refreshing, chewy, a little dry, and medium to high carbonation.

Overall: Such a refreshing beer as the weather gets warmer here in Boston. More please.

Pure and regal, the taste of Pilsner rarely gets better. Showcasing the pilsner malt in all its simplistic glory and then floral and spicy balance to round out its taste ensures high drinkability and refreshment from start to finish.

The lager captivates the eye with its bright golden hue that displays a steady streaming dance of carbonation that float to the top and create a cottony white head. Long in its retention and trailing with broken concentric lace, this Pilsner is very pleasing to the sight.

With its cracker-like malts and its floral bouquet, its aromas are a blend of honeysuckle and fresh baking bread. Soft apple and lemon peels lead into a crisp and tangy scent. The light earthiness of straw stems from lightly kilned barley and leafy hops. It leaves a delicate pepper note to ponder as that first sip comes rapidly.

Supple sweetness and breadiness drift onto the early palate with a notion of powdered sugar and grain. But as the early sweetness gives way to a delicate sulfur taste, the beer crispens considerably as apple, lemon and white grape decorate the middle. Its clean and malty-dry finish balances with the spicy noble hop type of bitterness, equipped with peppercorn, mint and a hint of vanilla.

Its light and dry body is given a short lift with its expressive carbonation. But as the bubbles wisp away, the sweetness dissolves and the ale's gentle warmth and hop spices leave the mouth refreshed, clean and crisp.

Hard pressed to find a more authentic and more satisfying lager, Weihenstephaner seems unable to make anything short of stellar!

On draft at Tap and Barrel, Smithtown, NY.

Poured a clear straw hue with a two finger frothy white head.

There was very good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a soft pale sweetness and a faint metallic hop.

The taste offered an even slight sweetness with a balancing grassy hop.

The mouthfeel was toward the rounder side of the style.

Overall a tasty classic pils.

On draught at the Tip Tap Room in Boston.

The definition of what a pilsner should be from the worlds oldest brewery.

Taste is crisp, refreshing and complex all at the same time.

What really makes this beer world class is the almost unbelievable creamy mouthfeel that it manages to produce with this style of beer.
