Poured from a bottle into a schooner. No obvious best before date on the bottle.

A - light yellow and cloudy. Big fluffy white head of a few fingers that slowly (a few minutes) dissipates leaving some chunky lacing behind. Paler than I would expect; enticing!

S - big yeasty and grainy nose; lots of wheat in there. Surprisingly powerful and earthy. Really lovely nose on this.

T - big flavor that matches the nose very well; very slight bitterness with a hint of sour that permeates the beer until you're walloped with a massive wheat and yeast profile (almost a vegetable quality to it - it's so solid). After the flavors fade a combined bitter/sourness permeates.

M - quite light, but with solid carbonation - super thirst quenching.

D - no hint whatsoever of the relatively large alcohol profile. Easy drinker for sure.

Really solid and delicious. Highly recommended.

I am now committed to reducing, if not eradicating, my backlog of bottles. I had purchased this one evening at Hunger 'n' Thirst when Mughugger was working in the bottle shop. I am listening to Black Sabbath as the accompanying soundtrack for this one.

From the bottle: "WBA 12 [-] World Beer Awards [-] World's Best Wheat Beer Strong"; "The world's oldest brewery [-] Since 1040".

I began the pour, only to be be surprised by its light color. I do not know why I was thinking that it would be dark in color, but I was startled all the same. I got a dense finger of bone-white head with good retention as a result. Color was a pretty sunshine-yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled like a Hefeweizen, especially in terms of the banana esters, although I got some clove, but accompanied by a bit of heat. I was ready to sneeze. Mouthfeel was medium. I initially thought to myself "Hefeweizen! Burned again!" since I am not a big fan of the style, but then the heat kicked in and I realized why this was a Winter beer. Bananas + heat = Bananas Foster! Man, I really dug it in Advanced Foods in HomeEc when we did flambe desserts. Hit the lights, get some fire going and serve. In this case, I was getting ready to hit the deck! It was like a rabbit punch. I did not see this coming, despite the label. Finish was dry, mainly thanks to its inherent heat. Phew! Sabbath plays on while I may be played out.

Poured into a fluted pilsner glass.

Look: Hazy, cloudy rusted wheat yellow body. Rocky white head that pretty much doesn't recede. Lacing is minimal.

Aroma: Boozy right away, then bready, yeasty, and fruity with mostly banana.

Taste: Much like the aroma. The alcohol really comes out early before becoming very grainy with loads of bready notes. Banana throughout.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, dry.

Overall: Excellent taste and aroma, very boozy though.
