DATE TASTED: January 24, 2014... GLASSWARE: Schneider Edel-Weisse...OCCASION: celebrating a week of sickness ... APPEARANCE: thick, snow white head that occupies half the glass; cloudy, faint pale orange body; smooth wispy cloudlike lacing... AROMA: beautiful clove and cinnamon/nutmeg mix with grapefruit and citrus to produce a celebration of scents... PALATE: as drinkable a 7.7% ABV as you'll find; soft, warming sensation at the throat; slightly active overall...TASTE: slightly tart at the lips; a clean, ever-so-subtle malty base; a bit yeasty late; unmistakable wheat, clove and citric kick--a pleasure... OVERALL: as far as gift sets go, this Weihenstephaner is among the best in recent memory--five above-the-standard beers and a handsome weizen glass made the price equitable...formidable but balanced, smooth yet arresting, this beer delivers the malt that sets it apart from its gif-pack brethren...

A - 4.5 - Nice golden yellow color with a big white head on it that sticks just about forever.
S - 4.75 - You can literally smell it from arms length. Banana, vanilla yogurt, orange, white pepper, wheat bread in the background. It's so fresh and good.
T - 4.75 - Banana, wheat, fruity yogurt, bubble gum. This is a pretty ridiculously good beer, esp for the price.
M - 4.5 - Light - medium, alc covered, aftertaste is banana bread.
O - 4.75 - This beer has so much potential to be sickeningly sweet and cloying but it completely avoids that and blends all the flavors of a German bock beer in a way that's so good, you'll never want to touch an American wheat beer again.

Bottle to Weizen glass-

A - Rich, golden, and inviting with slight carbonation. Rich white two finger head and deep cloudy body.

S - Fruity and flowery aromas all around.

T - Not quite as light as a hefeweizen--has a more pronounced alcohol flavor but is very balanced. Still get some of that sweet, biscuity, banana type flavor on the back end.

M - Rich mouthfeel with just enough carbonation. Sweet/biscuity flavor lingers on the palate.

O - Outstanding. While I do enjoy a hefeweizen, this style and beer are more up my alley. A bit more bite, but well balanced. A must try.

One of my all-time favorite brews.

A king-sized, off-white head tops out above the rim of a Weizen glass. Color is light brown with yellow hues at the light.

A fusion of spices (clove, nutmeg), banana, lemon peel, and vanilla cake to the nose.

Taste is powerful with bold spicy and fruity notes that mix to form a completely unique flavor profile.

A complex beer of the old guard that doesn't have to punch you in the mouth to get its point across.

Pours hazy straw yellow with a full one inch white head that settles to a thick cap on top and leaves strands of lace.

Smell is of grains (wheat and barley), lemon zest, earthy yeast and faint banana accents.

Taste, like the smell, is grainy with a more dominant banana presence than in the nose and some citrus notes on the back end.

The texture is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a tasty wheat beer with hints of banana flavor. I was a little disappointed with the musty, dirt-like aroma. The 7.7 ABV sneaks up on you.
