500-mL bottle served to chalice. Unsure of the bottling date. Drank 6-9-14. Compared this head-to-head with New Glarus' Imperial Weizen.

Hazy, golden yellow, lighter in color than the NG. Was unable to produce much head, and what little there was dissipated quickly, leaving very little lacing. Was surprised, given that this is a wheat beer

The aroma highlights the German yeast. Overripe banana and pear, along with clove. Perhaps very faint apple notes

The taste hews closely to style, with the spice dominating and the wheat providing a solid backbone

Well-carbonated, refreshing, bit less creamy than NG

I love the opponent but this was a close winner, with the more impressive, aggressive, potent aroma carrying the day

In a weizen glass, at cellar temperature.

A one-finger white head quickly fades to nothing over a very hazy golden-orange ale that I can't really see through.

It smells like banana, cloves, coriander, pears, and estery yeast.

The bananas and pears make a quick impression on my palate. This melds into a rich, almost buttery breadiness, spiced with those spices from the aroma.

I'd describe the body as a hefty medium with pretty spritzy carbonation.

Like a festive white bread infused with spices and fruit. That's what this beer is.

A - Thick creamy white head that holds for an average amount of time. Lots of lacing. Very murky amber/yellow color with active carbonation. Darker yellow at the top and lighter at the bottom, maybe because of the glass.

S - Very wheaty. Some sweet citrus grapefruit notes. Malty.

T - Malty with almost no bitterness. A very slight sweetness. The maltiness comes in the middle followed by a citrus almost sweet taste. The alcohol and carbonation combine to really hit at the beginning of each sip.

M - Pretty thick for a wheat beer.

O - I really like the lack of bitterness in the taste, which is very pleasant. So overall just a nice tasting beer.
